About The Position

In this Senior Lead role, you will play a crucial part in daily operations at our Birmingham location. This position uniquely combines skilled transfer work, switching duties, and leadership responsibilities. You will help coordinate railcar movement, maintain operational flow, and perform safe, accurate product transfers. Equally important, you will employ an "out-front" management approach, spending time working alongside your team, assisting in the actual completion of work, and mentoring newer team members on strict Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) safety rules.

Requirements

  • Physical Stamina: Ability to constantly work outdoors in all-weather elements (extreme heat, cold, dust, and noise) and walk on uneven surfaces throughout the entire shift.
  • Schedule Flexibility: Must be able to work mandatory overtime hours when operating requirements cannot be fulfilled during regular shifts.
  • Education & Licensing: High School Diploma or Equivalent, and a valid state driver's license to operate company equipment.
  • Safety First: A commitment to complying with and enforcing all OSHA, EPA, FRA, AAR, and DOT regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with transfer operations, railcar switching, or related industrial/rail work.
  • Proven leadership ability with strong communication skills to motivate and train a team.

Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: Perform pre-shift briefings, assign daily work, and monitor employees to ensure they work safely and efficiently to achieve production goals.
  • Field Operations: Operate motorized equipment, conduct skilled transfer work, and assist in coordinating railcar movements safely.
  • Safety & Training: Actively train employees in applicable customer and company work instructions, quality procedures, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Hazard Prevention: Identify and correct unsafe work conditions and practices to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Auditing & Reporting: Conduct various company and customer audits and ensure all accidents or equipment damage are promptly reported.
