About The Position

Limited Term 12 months; may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent. Effective July 1, 2025, in accordance with the applicable Memorandum of Understanding, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented. PLP 2025 requires each full-time employee in Bargaining Unit 11, and related Excluded, Exempt and Statutory Exempt employees, will have their base salary reduced by 3 percent and will receive 5 hours PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027. Salaries do not reflect the recent changes. Part-time employees are subject to the same conditions as full-time employees, on a prorated basis equivalent to their time-base. Permanent intermittent employees are subject to the same condition as full-time employees, based on the number of hours worked in the pay period. Under the supervision of the Correctional Health Services Administrator I/II, Correctional Facility (CF), the Senior Laboratory Assistant, CF performs standardized non-technical laboratory procedures in collecting and processing laboratory specimens, materials, and supplies. Assists in operating specialized laboratory equipment. Complies with all the applicable State and federal laws and regulations and departmental policies and procedures pertaining to the laboratory. May act in a lead capacity for laboratory assistants. Maintains order and supervises the conduct of the incarcerated and protects and maintains the safety of persons and property.

Requirements

  • Positions performing phlebotomy duties must possess a valid California State license/certification as a phlebotomist issued by the California Department of Public Health or equivalent license/certification which meets the legal requirements to practice phlebotomy in California. (Applicants who do not meet these requirements will be admitted to the examination, but must obtain the required license/certification prior to appointment.)
  • Two years of experience in the California state service performing laboratory work, including one year performing the duties of a Laboratory Assistant, Correctional Facility, Range B.
  • Completion of two years of college including at least twelve semester units or eighteen quarter units in college laboratory courses such as chemistry, physics, biology, or bacteriology. (Two years of experience performing technical laboratory work may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.)
  • The position(s) require(s) a Background Investigation be cleared prior to being hired.
  • The position(s) require(s) Medical Clearance prior to being hired.
  • The position(s) require(s) a(n) A valid Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) License. You will be required to provide a copy of your license prior to being hired.
