AST SpaceMobile is building the first and only global cellular broadband network in space to operate directly with standard, unmodified mobile devices based on our extensive IP and patent portfolio and designed for both commercial and government applications. Our engineers and space scientists are on a mission to eliminate the connectivity gaps faced by today’s five billion mobile subscribers and finally bring broadband to the billions who remain unconnected. Position Overview AST SpaceMobile is seeking a highly skilled, security-focused Senior IT Engineer to lead the architecture, implementation, and ownership of our CMMC Level 2 (NIST SP 800-171) network. This individual will be the technical lead for standing up a secure corporate and defense environment, ensuring all systems meet stringent DoD regulatory requirements, including CUI, ITAR, and FOCI mitigation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, engineering, or a related technical field preferred
  • 7+ years of experience in systems implementation or enterprise systems leadership
  • 5+ years of experience with Windows desktop support
  • 5+ years of experience with hardware maintenance tasks such as racking servers, switches, deploying workstations, setting up printers, etc.
  • Good working knowledge of networking fundamentals such as the OSI model, TCP/IP stack, communication protocols, firewalls, routing, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail to ensure the accuracy of all documentation and project deliverables.
  • Eagerness to help others and solve problems proactively.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, startup-like environment.
  • Ability to work in a standard office environment and use a computer for extended periods.
  • Physical ability to rack servers, move equipment, crawl under desks, and manage Ethernet cabling.
  • Flexibility to work on-call when necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with CUI, ITAR, and FOCI-mitigated organizational requirements
  • Experience supporting DoD or aerospace/defense programs, including exposure to FAR/DFARS and NIST 800-171
  • Experience with virtualization products such as Hyper-V or VMWare.
  • Experience with cloud Infrastructure as a Service such as AWS or Azure.
  • Experience with Cisco Meraki network infrastructure.
  • Experience with macOS, iOS, and Android devices.
  • Scripting and automation experience.
  • Experience with Dell iDRAC.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation, enhancement, and sustainment of a CMMC Level 2 compliant network infrastructure.
  • Provide hardware and software support for end users across workstations, servers, and mobile platforms.
  • Deploy and maintain on-premises hardware including routers, switches, servers, and workstations.
  • Establish and enforce governance processes, change control procedures, and data standards.
  • Manage user accounts in on-premises Active Directory and cloud-based identity providers.
  • Ensure enterprise systems adhere to CUI, ITAR, export control, and FOCI-mitigated access restrictions.
  • Create and maintain meticulous systems documentation for repeatability and audit compliance.
  • Perform software installations, patches, and upgrades to maintain system security and integrity.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose system issues across hardware and software layers.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
