Avidity is broadening the reach of AOCs with its advancing and expanding pipeline, including programs in cardiology and immunology through internal discovery efforts and key partnerships. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • 5+ years of professional experience in data engineering (or 3+ years with a Master’s degree)
  • Mastery of Python and SQL for data engineering and automation
  • Strong hands-on experience with dbt for data transformation, modeling, and pipeline development
  • Strong expertise in cloud data platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
  • Hands-on experience with data modeling, BI, and visualization tools: Power BI, Tableau, or Hex
  • Proficiency with workflow orchestration tools such as Airflow or Dagster
  • Experience working with Snowflake, Databricks, or BigQuery
  • Knowledge of Git-based version control and CI/CD practices for data assets
  • Experience in an agile, collaborative development environment (e.g., Git, JIRA, Confluence, Scrum/Lean)
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to build alignment, foster collaboration, and drive shared ownership across functions to achieve results in a complex, matrixed environment
  • Ability to travel to Avidity’s San Diego headquarters approximately twice per year for company development weeks and occasional in-person collaboration
  • Demonstrated curiosity and openness to integrating AI-powered tools to enhance functional processes, support data-informed decisions, and drive innovative outcomes across teams

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain scalable data pipelines for batch and streaming data using modern data engineering principles and technologies such as Python, SQL, and dbt
  • Develop robust ETL/ELT processes to ingest data from APIs, files, and databases (e.g., SQL Server, PostgreSQL) into cloud data warehouses such as Snowflake, Databricks, Fabric, or BigQuery
  • Build and manage cloud-based data infrastructure on Azure, AWS, or GCP, ensuring reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency
  • Implement data integration solutions across systems using tools such as Boomi or MuleSoft
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, data scientists and business analysts to understand their data needs and translate them into technical requirements for the data infrastructure
  • Optimize database performance and query efficiency to support analytics and reporting workloads
  • Build and maintain data applications, AI pipelines, and analytics solutions that enhance insight generation
  • Ensure data quality, consistency, and integrity through monitoring, validation, and governance practices
  • Implement security protocols and compliance measures to safeguard sensitive data across the organization’s infrastructure
  • Automate workflows using Python, Bash, or Shell scripting and orchestration frameworks such as Airflow or Dagster
  • Maintain clear documentation of systems architecture and provide technical guidance to other team members
  • Stay current on industry trends and emerging technologies in data engineering to continuously improve and innovate our processes

  • The base salary range for this role is $140,600 - $155,400
