Senior Irrigation Technician (Tbsc-Parks)
About The Position
Position will be open until filled. We are currently seeking: A Senior Irrigation Technician to join our team. In this role, you will perform skilled technical work maintaining the water irrigation systems used in the City's parks, sports fields, and landscaped areas. Your responsibilities will include: Working on an irrigation crew with two or more employees for all parks and sports fields. In the absence of the Crew Leader, leading the crew with the daily responsibilities for all tasks. Testing, repairing and maintaining Parks Department water irrigation systems; testing, repairing, replacing, installing, troubleshooting and maintaining electrical, mechanical and hydraulic components. Identifying and troubleshooting problems with irrigation systems and components, including pumps, valves, pipes, heads, electrical devices, and flow meters; repairing and replacing components as necessary. Inspecting and diagnosing water irrigation management system problems; repairing and replacing clocks and timer components; adjusting irrigation timing system, watering schedule and area coverage within scope of authority. Checking City parks, sports fields, and landscaped areas for water leaks, appropriate irrigation coverage, and turf conditions, and recommends maintenance tasks as needed. Operating pick-up, truck, backhoe, front end loader, trencher and various hand and power tools. Operating vehicles and equipment in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; identifying and reporting mechanical problems requiring additional repair. Working on assigned projects and making appropriate decisions based on work experience; notifying supervisors of repair problems beyond the scope of authority. Utilizing proper safety precautions in all work performed; reporting problems and emergency situations; recognizing, avoiding, and reporting unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries. Responding as directed to perform emergency maintenance and repair work. Assuring that hazardous materials are cleaned up in a timely manner and controlled according to City policy and procedures. Position may include light construction and other related/assigned duties as required. Hours: Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, and 30 minutes for lunch. Periodically provides over-time service. May work some weekends and/or holidays. Requirements
- Operating and maintaining power and hand tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner.
- Repairing and maintaining irrigation systems according to standard operating and safety procedures.
- Diagnosing repair problems on automated irrigation maintenance management systems.
- Skill in the operation and care of machines tools and equipment used in maintenance, installation and repair of irrigation systems.
- Following and maintaining safety standards.
- Closely following verbal and written instructions and procedures.
- High School Diploma or equivalent; and two years of experience in landscaping and irrigation maintenance work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver License.
- Applicants with an out-of-state driver license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure.
- Certification as an Irrigation Technician for landscape irrigation systems is required within two years of hire.
