Reporting to the Engineering Facilities Manager, the Instrument Engineer will specify, review, and select instrumentation for projects of varying scale, provide preliminary design, and support installation and startup. The role includes daily troubleshooting, maintaining engineering standards, improving reliability, and developing maintenance procedures. Proficiency in creating and managing documentation such as P&IDs, loop sheets, and specifications is essential. Please note that this role requires on-site presence five days per week, Monday through Friday.   • Project Support Specify, review, and select instrumentation for projects (from single instruments to large-scale installations).
  • Provide preliminary design for instrumentation systems.
  • Offer technical support during installation and startup phases.
  • Ensure compliance with plant engineering standards during project execution.
  • Plant Operations & Troubleshooting Deliver day-to-day technical support for plant instrumentation.
  • Collaborate closely with hourly maintenance personnel to resolve instrumentation issues.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot instrumentation failures to minimize downtime.
  • Standards & Reliability Maintain and update plant engineering standards for instrumentation.
  • Lead initiatives to improve reliability and performance of plant instrumentation.
  • Develop and implement best practices for instrumentation maintenance.
  • Documentation & Procedures Create and maintain accurate instrumentation documentation: Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) Loop sheets Instrument specifications
  • Develop and maintain plant maintenance procedures for instrumentation systems.
  • Continuous Improvement Identify opportunities for system upgrades and modernization.
  • Support reliability programs and preventive maintenance strategies.
  • Stay current with industry standards and emerging technologies in instrumentation.

  • B.S. Degree in Engineering or related discipline; equivalent education and relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Minimum 5 years of technical experience in industrial or manufacturing environments
  • Knowledge of industrial instrumentation (pressure, temperature, flow, level).
  • Ability to specify and select instruments and design instrumentation systems
  • Knowledge of PLCs, DCS, control loops, and signal types (analog, digital, HART)
  • Proficiency in creating and maintaining P&IDs, loop sheets, and specifications
  • Understanding of ISA standards, NEC, and safety codes
  • Troubleshooting and root cause analysis for instrumentation/control systems
  • Project management for instrumentation scope, including contractor/vendor coordination
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and ability to prioritize under pressure
  • Commitment to continuous learning and adaptability to new technologies
  • Proficiency in process design (P&IDs, PFDs, equipment sizing/arrangements)
  • Knowledge of continuous and batch chemical processes
  • Experience with hazardous area classifications and intrinsic safety
  • Preventive maintenance and reliability improvement (e.g., MTBF analysis)
  • Familiarity with advanced signal protocols (Foundation Fieldbus, ASi)
  • Budgeting and cost estimation for instrumentation work
  • Proficiency with CAD tools, instrumentation databases, and asset management systems
  • Experience with calibration software and diagnostic tools
  • Knowledge of Distributed Control Systems (e.g., DeltaV, Centum, Provox)
  • Understanding of process safety management (MOC, PHA)
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office, AutoCAD)
