About The Position

The Senior Ingredient Buyer at CHS, Inc. is responsible for purchasing commodities and ingredients for feed manufacturing facilities across the U.S. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a passion for the feed industry. The position involves negotiating with vendors, evaluating supply sources, and developing purchasing strategies to ensure timely delivery of quality ingredients.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • 4+ years of experience in Supply Chain and Procurement and/or Purchasing
  • SAP experience
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams)
  • Purchasing experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong professional relationships
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to influence and negotiate
  • Strong decision-making skills

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in Animal Science/Nutrition, Business, Economics, Manufacturing, Logistics, Statistics or related field

Responsibilities

  • Review, analyze and select the best sources of supply, and select vendors based off that information.
  • Negotiate prices, terms and delivery of feed ingredients to keep our customers' orders in full and on time.
  • Evaluate alternative sources of supply and vendors, paying attention to quality and specifications of ingredients sourced.
  • Create purchase orders and contracts when applicable.
  • Responsible for placing orders with vendors and completing purchase orders in the ERP.
  • Contact vendors with any quality discrepancies and address issues quickly.
  • Communicate ingredient supply issues to other business functions along with the Purchasing manager to help with communication and reformulation efforts.
  • Work closely with Global Grain Marketing personnel to leverage our scale and other product lines to reduce our cost of goods.
  • Build strong working relationships with Plant Managers and Production Teams.
  • Develop purchasing strategies for ingredients responsible for.
