About The Position
The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Water Industry Specialist/Industry Specialist (IS) to join its Global Water, Cities, Waste and Circularity team. This position, based in Washington, D.C., will have a global focus and will require international travel. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in developing prospects and delivering technical and sector due diligence for potential water and sanitation investments. The IS will be responsible for conducting sector analysis and writing due diligence reports, necessitating clarity in communication and a commercially minded approach. Familiarity with all stages of the project investment cycle is essential, as is senior management experience in the water utility sector, along with an understanding of corporate and project finance investments. The IFC's strategy increasingly emphasizes market creation in emerging economies and pre-investment activities. This includes commissioning and reviewing market and feasibility studies and business development mappings, where the IS will be a key member of a multi-disciplinary team from across the World Bank Group. The ideal candidate will have at least 20 years of experience in the water and sanitation sector, having held roles such as consulting engineer, regulator, engineering contractor, or water utility manager. A professional qualification as an engineer related to the water and/or construction sector is required. The IS should also have experience working in emerging markets and be able to provide water sector expertise while leading the technical and operational due diligence of investment proposals. Understanding the impact of climate change on the water and sanitation sector is crucial, as is the ability to lead and develop small teams. After becoming familiar with IFC operations, the Industry Specialist will be expected to work independently, with initial support from the Global Water Lead. The role offers an opportunity to apply and enhance extensive water sector experience while making a significant impact on people's lives.
