About The Position

The Senior Industrial Engineer, Excellence plays a critical role in advancing Burlington Stores, Inc.'s supply chain objectives by leading and supporting engineering-driven initiatives. The role will manage various project tasks—including ideation, business case development, implementation, change management, and value realization—while partnering closely with key stakeholders across Distribution Center Operations and Transportation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering or similar area of study.
  • 4-8 years of experience in process and material handling system design, work measurement, productivity improvement, cost reduction, and project implementation.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt preferred.
  • Project Management certification preferred.
  • Strong ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in work measurement methodologies (especially time studies) and best methods development.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining management observation and accountability programs.
  • Familiarity with productivity tracking and data collection systems.
  • Experience with Standard Data and Predetermined Time Systems.
  • Ability to conduct cost analysis for project justification.
  • Strong analytical, planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, Visio).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Working knowledge of DC operations within a national logistics network.
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis, operations research, and line balancing.
  • Hands-on experience with material handling systems and automation.
  • SQL database querying and use of BI tools/languages.
  • Experience with Manhattan Associates Supply Chain Suite and Dematic WCS functionality.

Responsibilities

  • Identify productivity and process improvement opportunities through data analysis and actionable recommendations.
  • Conduct DC observations, understand current operations, and collaborate with subject matter experts from corporate to site-level teams.
  • Develop robust project plans with clear milestones and timelines using an engineering mindset.
  • Lead supply chain improvement initiatives through cross-functional DMAIC projects.
  • Create and manage project documentation, including project charters and Gantt charts, to ensure stakeholder alignment.
  • Proactively identify and resolve potential roadblocks to maintain project timelines.
  • Support the design and implementation of material handling equipment for new, expanded, or existing facilities.
  • Use data analysis to validate project hypotheses and measure improvement outcomes.
  • Conduct work sampling, return on investment (ROI) analysis, and cost/benefit analysis to support project decision-making.
  • Ensure successful transition of project ownership to operational teams post-implementation.
  • Design tools, reports, and documentation to track and sustain long-term project results.
  • Participate in ad hoc assignments, including complex cross-functional initiatives aligned with business objectives.
