About The Position

We're seeking an exceptional Senior Industrial Designer with a passion for creating world-class physical products that blend beauty, functionality, and innovation. You'll be instrumental in defining the design language of our robotic systems and ensuring every product we ship reflects our commitment to excellence and user-centered design. This is a rare opportunity to work at the intersection of advanced robotics, AI, and industrial design—where your work will directly impact how millions of people interact with autonomous systems in their daily lives.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of professional industrial design experience in a product development environment, preferably with consumer electronics, robotics, smart devices, or durable goods
  • Proven track record of shipping physical products from concept through mass production and market delivery
  • Portfolio demonstrating exceptional craft with examples of products that have been manufactured and sold commercially
  • Experience with the complete product development lifecycle—from clay modeling and prototyping through DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and production ramp
  • Expert proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Rhino, Fusion 360, or similar)
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, manufacturing processes, and material science
  • Experience with rapid prototyping techniques including 3D printing, CNC machining, and model making
  • Knowledge of injection molding, sheet metal, die casting, and other high-volume manufacturing processes
  • Familiarity with electronics packaging, thermal management, and design for assembly
  • Obsessive attention to detail and a relentless pursuit of quality
  • Deep appreciation for aesthetics with the ability to create forms that are both beautiful and functional
  • User-centered design philosophy with empathy for how people interact with technology
  • Radical creativity paired with pragmatic problem-solving abilities
  • Understanding of human factors, ergonomics, and inclusive design principles
  • Excellent visual communication skills through sketching, rendering, and presentation
  • Ability to articulate design rationale and defend decisions with data and user insights
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and influencing without authority
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting aggressive timelines
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment with evolving requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Experience specifically with robotics, automation systems, or AI-enabled devices
  • Familiarity with UI/UX design and creating cohesive physical-digital experiences
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance requirements for consumer/industrial products
  • Experience with design systems and scaling design across product families
  • Advanced degree in Industrial Design or related field

Responsibilities

  • Lead the industrial design process from early concept exploration through production release and launch
  • Define and evolve Dexmate's design language across our product portfolio
  • Create compelling product concepts that solve critical user needs while pushing the boundaries of what's possible in robotics
  • Translate complex technical requirements into elegant, intuitive physical forms
  • Partner closely with engineering teams (mechanical, electrical, AI/ML) to balance form, function, performance, and manufacturability
  • Collaborate with product management, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to ensure designs meet business objectives and production requirements
  • Work alongside human factors researchers to create products that are not only beautiful but also ergonomic and delightful to use
  • Interface with external vendors and manufacturing partners to bring designs to life
  • Develop designs through multiple mediums: sketching, rendering, CAD modeling, and physical prototyping
  • Create high-fidelity prototypes to validate design concepts and user interactions
  • Conduct design reviews and present concepts to stakeholders, articulating design rationale and vision
  • Iterate rapidly based on user feedback, engineering constraints, and manufacturing realities
  • Drive innovation in materials exploration and manufacturing processes
  • Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers to identify cutting-edge materials and finishes
  • Develop comprehensive CMF (Color, Material, Finish) strategies aligned with brand identity
  • Ensure designs are optimized for high-volume manufacturing and assembly
  • Conduct competitive analysis and trend research to inform design direction
  • Participate in strategic product planning and roadmap discussions
  • Contribute to design process development and best practices
  • Mentor junior designers and foster a culture of design excellence
