About The Position

We are looking for a Senior Industrial Controls Engineer to join our Industrial Automation team within our Industrial Controls organization. This position will report to the Manager, Industrial Controls Engineering and will play an important part in driving the execution of the PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers) development and implementation. The ideal candidate is customer driven and proactive fetching information and discuss with the end user. The Industrial Automation team is part of the Industrial Controls organization which develops products for our warehouse automation systems. With a proven track record in industrial control specification, design implementation, standard engineering practices and documentation; their mission is to research new platforms, utilize advanced hardware, and push the limits of technology to build a world-class automation platform that minimizes development time, reduces commissioning time, and eliminates unplanned downtime. This position will lead R&D efforts and drive new product development in a hands-on lab/shop environment. This role focusses on rapid prototyping, system architecture, and turning innovative concepts into robust, field-ready automation solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineer, Computer science or in a related discipline.
  • Knowledge of Power Systems and Servo Controls to design coordinated motion control systems.
  • Experience with AC/DC Drive Control Architecture.
  • 10+ years’ Design and Implementaton of Industrial Control Systems using PLC, HMIs, Industrial Robotics, and VFD/Servo Drives.
  • 10+ years’ in ground up Programming of PLCs, HMIs, and related equipment for Industrial Control Systems. (Rockwell Automation products preferred)
  • Experience within the Material Handling Industry (Prior Integrator or OEM experience preferred)
  • Expert level experience in Rockwell Integrated Architecture (ControlLogix, GuardLogix, CompactLogix, Powerflex VFDs, Kinetix Servos)
  • Expert level of Industrial Automation network technology.
  • Experience developing and programming HMI applications. (Ignition8, FactoryTalk ME/SE)
  • Able to understand and read electrical and mechanical schematics.
  • Hands on approach to testing and commissioning Industrial Control Systems
  • Strong background in troubleshooting complex automated system.
  • Experience with JIRA and agile methodology.
  • Employees must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations.
  • The employee is responsible for owning a credit card and managing expenses personally to be reimbursed on a bi-weekly basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge in Inductive Automation products is a plus.
  • Knowledge of ABB, Schnieder Elec, Bosch Motion Control Solutions is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Development and Simulation of Control Systems: Lead the development and simulation efforts for new control system functionalities from ground up design and modifications to existing control system code. Emphasizing the exploration of cutting-edge technologies and methodologies to achieve project objectives.
  • Leading Development and Test Execution: Spearhead the development of new control system functionalities and modifications, leveraging advanced techniques and tools to drive innovation. Oversee the execution of test strategies tailored to R&D projects to validate and refine developments.
  • Development of Standard Code: Collaborate with developing standard code libraries for use within Symbotic control systems to control new and existing automation systems.
  • Generate Code Standards and Documentation: Assist in developing best practices and standards for future control system programming. Document standard code library and final control system programming.
  • Independent Technical Execution: Work autonomously to execute development tasks, focusing on pushing the boundaries of industrial control technology and exploring novel solutions to address industry challenges.
  • Participation in Design Reviews: Actively participate in design reviews for technical solutions within existing architectures, providing specialized expertise to enhance system performance and accelerate development progress.
  • Root Cause Analysis and Innovative Solution Design: Conduct thorough root cause analysis to identify technical challenges and develop innovative solutions. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement solutions effectively and drive project advancement.
  • Documentation and Knowledge Sharing: Document research findings, development processes, and simulation results to capture valuable insights and facilitate knowledge sharing within the R&D team. Foster a collaborative environment conducive to innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Elaborating and Planning Technical Work: Define and plan technical tasks related to research and development projects, prioritizing innovative development efforts to advance industrial control technology.
