About the position

The Senior IMS Database Administrator is responsible for creating, maintaining, designing, monitoring, and troubleshooting client databases, particularly in IMS environments. This role involves performing database software upgrades, day-to-day maintenance, and optimizations to ensure database efficiency and integrity. The administrator will also coordinate with vendor personnel to resolve database issues and participate in on-call responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Create, maintain, and troubleshoot client databases.
• Perform mainframe database software upgrades and administration.
• Conduct day-to-day database maintenance including backups and restores.
• Monitor file extent growth and schedule reorganizations.
• Create and maintain disaster recovery procedures.
• Perform database optimizations and efficiency analysis.
• Participate in on-call responsibilities for database support.
• Coordinate with vendor personnel for timely solutions to database problems.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
• 10+ years of professional experience in IMS administration and systems programming support.
• Extensive knowledge of software management best practices.
• Experience configuring and managing IMS in a parallel sysplex environment.
• Ability to develop strategies and best practices in IMS systems programming.
• Experience establishing policies for database management and security.
• Knowledge of IMS database organization and access methods.
• Experience with database design and related utilities.

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge of CA and IBM tools for IMS.
• Familiarity with IBM's IMS performance Analyzer product.
