About The Position

The University of Iowa Health Care Downtown Campus intends to hire for two positions at either the Imaging Technologist classification or Senior Imaging Technologist, based on the qualifications of the successful candidate. Please indicate in your cover letter the position you wish to be considered for or indicate both. Selective candidates are eligible for a sign-on bonus of up to $10,000. Current UI employees are not eligible. The University of Iowa Health Care Downtown Campus Department of Radiology is seeking a Senior Imaging Technologist or an Imaging Technologist to work with physicians in the diagnosis of patients by performing technical radiographic and fluoroscopic, computerized tomographic, and diagnostic radiologic procedures. The department will be filling this position at one of two levels. The Imaging Technologist classification salary is 4, and the Senior Imaging Technologist classification salary is 5. You must indicate in your cover letter the level of classification (Imaging Technologist and/or Senior Imaging Technologist) you wish to be considered for or indicate both.

Requirements

  • Senior Imaging Technologist: A Bachelor's degree in Radiologic Technology or other Allied Health Sciences discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Senior Imaging Technologist: Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Imaging Technologist: Requires Successful completion of two-year or other approved program by Joint Review Committee in Radiologic Technology Education is required.
  • Current certification or eligibility for certification in diagnostic procedures by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is required.
  • Current Permit to Practice issued by the Iowa Department of Public Health for all radiographers operating ionizing radiation emitting equipment is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assists physicians with imaging procedures.
  • Completes continuing education in order to maintain Permit to Practice and ARRT registry.
  • Interviews patients and records appropriate clinical history relative to CT and diagnostic procedures.
  • Introduces self, calls the guests by name, explains the examination to the patient.
  • Provides care and protection of patients during procedures, assuming care for the emotional, psychological and physical needs, while adhering to TJC Patient Safety Goals.
  • Maintains equipment in the work area and reports down time to the appropriate personnel.
  • Identifies, accesses and prepares medications as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Prepares and assists with or administers materials, including opaque media, contrast media and barium, while adhering to patient safety goals.
  • Prepares patients for extensive CT and diagnostic radiologic procedures by determining technical factors and procedures appropriate for patient's age, processing films and scheduling examinations properly.
  • Operates radiographic CT and diagnostic imaging equipment within the department, practicing appropriate radiation protection and safety.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
