About The Position

The University of Iowa Health Care Downtown Campus is seeking to hire for one position at either the Imaging Technologist classification or Senior Imaging Technologist, depending on the qualifications of the successful candidate. Candidates are encouraged to indicate in their cover letter the position they wish to be considered for or to indicate both. The role involves working with physicians in the diagnosis of patients by performing radiographic technical procedures. The position is located at the University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center Downtown, a 194-bed hospital that became part of Iowa’s only comprehensive academic health system on January 31, 2024.

Requirements

  • Senior Imaging Technologist: A Bachelor's degree in Radiologic Technology or other Allied Health Sciences discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Senior Imaging Technologist: Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Imaging Technologist: Requires successful completion of a two-year or other approved program by Joint Review Committee in Radiologic Technology Education.

Nice To Haves

  • Current certification or eligibility for certification in diagnostic procedures by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is required.
  • Current Permit to Practice issued by the Iowa Department of Public Health for all radiographers operating ionizing radiation emitting equipment is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assists physicians with imaging procedures.
  • Interviews patients and records medical history relative to radiologic procedures.
  • Assesses patient's physical state and assesses I.V. needs or other required safeguards.
  • Maintains equipment and work area and reports faulty equipment.
  • Operates radiographic imaging equipment in the department; practices radiation safety and protection.
  • Identifies, accesses, and prepares medication as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Prepares and assists with or administers materials, including opaque media, contrast media, and barium, while adhering to patient safety goals.
  • Prepares patients for radiographs and determines technical factors to be used for obtaining radiographic images and procedures.
  • Adjusts technical factors and procedures according to the age and condition of the patient.
  • Provides for the care and protection of patients, assuming care for their emotional, psychological, and physical needs while adhering to the Joint Commission Patient Safety Goals.
  • Assists in moving patients from transportation mode to x-ray table.
  • Provides necessary clerical support, such as completing requisitions, filing, etc.
  • Prepares patients and performs head CT scans (Code Stroke/Stroke Alert).
  • Completes required continuing education as needed in order to maintain ARRT registry and Iowa Permit to Practice.
  • Introduces self, calls guest by name, explains the examination to the patient.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
