Your Opportunity We are seeking a Senior Hydrogeologist to play a key role in our mining team in the U.S. West (offices located in Reno, Elko, Salt Lake City, Denver, Ft. Collins, and Chandler). The position will join the Geosciences Team in Stantec's Energy & Resources Business Line. As a Senior Hydrogeologist, you will work on challenging, high-impact projects that shape sustainable water management strategies for clients across diverse industries (e.g., mining, water supply, pumped storage, etc.). The successful candidate must be able to work within multi-disciplinary teams to design and execute baseline studies, feasibility studies, and other hydrogeological investigations to support client objectives. The role will involve managing a multi-discipline scope of work within a team of hydrogeologists, geochemists, and hydrologists and interacting directly with clients. Strong quantitative hydrogeology skills are required with the ability to interact with diverse specialists and stakeholders.

  • Possess good knowledge of water and groundwater related regulations and permitting processes
  • Proficiency in using GIS tools
  • Proficiency in interpreting aquifer test results
  • Overall well-rounded experience in hydrogeology, particularly with mining and water resource development
  • Minimum undergraduate degree directly related to hydrogeology (Geology, Geological, Geotechnical or Civil Engineering)
  • A minimum of 10 years of related hydrogeological experience
  • Existing professional registration or ability to work towards a professional registration (PG or PE)
  • Demonstrated skills in written and oral communication are required (record of publications, project reports, and/or public presentations will be requested)

Nice To Haves

  • A graduate degree related to hydrogeology is considered a strong asset
  • Proficiency with numerical groundwater modeling software is considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Follow safe work practices and adhere to company and client guidelines and policies for planning and executing work in a safe manner
  • Develop preliminary conceptual hydrogeological models to support field program design
  • Design and oversee implementation of hydrogeology field investigations including drilling and logging of overburden and bedrock core, sampling of soil, groundwater and bedrock
  • Design and oversee installation of monitoring wells, supply wells, dewatering wells, and vibrating wire piezometers
  • Design and oversee single well and multi-well aquifer test programs
  • Support development of numerical groundwater models to support dewatering requirements and environmental impact assessments
  • Provide mentorship, technical guidance and technical review to our junior and intermediate hydrogeologists
  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams to design and execute baseline studies, feasibility studies, and other hydrogeological investigations to support client objectives.
  • Collaborate with Stantec hydrogeologists across North America
  • Provide technical leadership for the hydrogeological components of diverse and complex projects across the globe
  • Prepare technical reports and client presentations summarizing project work, findings and recommendations
  • Travel as required to various field sites with overnight travel sometimes required (valid driver's license is required)
  • Demonstrate sound understanding and application of established practices, standards, and guidelines from state and federal agencies and other professional bodies
  • Prepare proposals, develop work plans, schedules, and budgets and management of projects/tasks
