About The Position

The Senior Home Loan Originator (SHLO) will proactively seek new residential mortgage business and will build relationships with business line partners within the organization and externally to generate referral business. The principal responsibility of the SHLO is to meet with the customer to determine the product and terms that best fit their needs. He/She will generate a complete mortgage application, ensure appropriate guidelines and procedures are followed while meeting sales and quality goals and objectives. The SHLO must clearly communicate documentation requirements, fees, and terms to the customer. The customer must leave the application process with a thorough understanding of the steps that will follow. He/She will communicate timely and in a friendly professional demeanor to the customers and to the support staff as well. The SHLO will additionally, be responsible for the leadership, management, growth and profitability of their designated region. He/she will assist the Home Loan Manager, with coaching, training, and mentoring.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university and 3-5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have strong public relations skills.
  • Must have computer skills in Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Notary public.
  • Federal NMLS.

Responsibilities

  • Originate Home loans including: Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae, FHA, USDA, VA, Home Equity Loans, HELOCs, and other in-house loan products.
  • Prospects new mortgage lending opportunities and recommends the best home loan product(s) based on the customers individual needs.
  • Analyze and compile information and documentation collected to accurately process loans in accordance with Bank policies and procedures as well as real estate lending rules and regulations.
  • Ensure assigned Home Loan Matrix dates for 30-day turn-time are met on all loan files.
  • Identify, develop and maintain a successful network of business relationships that serves as a recurring source of referrals for new home loan opportunities.
  • Maintain availability to realtors and borrowers outside of standard banking hours.
  • Ensure exceptional customer experience by overseeing the loan process from origination to closing and providing on-going communication to customers, processors, underwriters, and other business partners.
  • Participate in business related development opportunities and community efforts to promote F&M and generate new business.
  • Demonstrates a complete understanding of products offered by F&M and cross-sell those products, including FM Investments.
  • Works with managers and marketing to develop and implement sales and marketing plans on an on-going basis designed to enhance success, and achieve goals assigned by the bank.
  • Handle customer questions and/or issues and take appropriate action to resolve them.
  • Achieve production and other goals as established by F&M.
  • Utilizes F&M training materials, reference tools and other resources to provide accurate and up-to-date loan program/policy information to both external customers and internal business partners.
  • Participate in Sales program including practicing drills and role-plays; utilize sales skills to provide outstanding customer service.
  • Oversee daily activities performed by the HLOs and drive each towards expected monthly and quarterly goals through regular coaching.
  • Review and decision exceptions to F&M's loan policy.
  • Develop and assist in special functions and home loan training.
  • Perform personnel tasks for the region, reviews, coaching, and identifying training opportunities.
  • Possess excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Comply and satisfactorily pass tests for bank policy and regulatory compliance that apply to position.
