GFT is currently seeking a Senior Highway Engineer to join our Eastern PA highway team. This hybrid position will be based out of either Valley Forge Office (Audubon, PA), Philadelphia Office or Lehigh Valley Office (Fogelsville, PA) . This is an exciting time to join the GFT team! What you’ll be challenged to do: Desired candidate will be experienced with Pennsylvania Department of Transportation design and/or Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission policies, standards, and specifications and have proven project experience as a lead highway engineer. Coordinate design activities and meetings between staff and other disciplines within GFT. The candidate will serve as a senior engineer and highway project/task engineer for highway projects. The candidate will work with team members to maintain and improve current client relationships, as well as develop new clients. Position requires effective time management, analytical and interpersonal skills. Successful candidate will be articulate with a professional presence and solid decision-making, planning and organizational skills. Responsibility for managing/overseeing scopes, schedules and budgets for projects performed with the highway group and daily successful operation of all aspects of project delivery including customer interface. In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following: Perform engineering design tasks for highway projects from preliminary to final design D evelop construction contract documents, such as specifications, cost estimates and review construction documents such as shop and working drawings. Establish working relationships and contact with client technical staff and project managers especially in PennDOT, local governments, and private clients Provide engineering design services for traditional design-bid-build projects and design-build highway projects Mentor and assist junior engineers in developing final design plans, including but not limited to implementation and knowledge of cross sections, traffic control, drainage, and signing and pavement markings plans Collaborate with highway staff to develop projects including but not limited to roadway, bridge, rail, transportation planning, traffic control, signing, pavement marking, knowledge of hydraulic design, and preliminary design for environmental documents. Coordinate design activities and meetings between design staff, subcontractors, and client managers Participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost and scheduling performance Participate in projects by completing tasks within schedule and budget with teams comprised of different disciplines Works as part of a project team within the highway disciplines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering required
  • Professional Engineering (PE) License registered in Pennsylvania or the ability to obtain within 6 months is required
  • 8-12 years’ progressive engineering experience possessing a broad knowledge and experience in highway design and strong technical skills in highway design is required

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and/or Pennsylvania Turnpike projects preferred including being well versed in client design policies, standards and specifications
  • Full and in-depth familiarity with MicroStation, InRoads software is required
  • OpenRoads design software experience a plus
  • Stormwater/NPDES Permitting experience a plus
  • Expertise with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Some experience with management of project tasks
  • Ability to work in a team environment, self-starter, demonstrated organization skills, team player, and commitment to continuous improvement.
