About The Position

CIVHC is seeking an experienced professional to join the Data Analytics & Insights team as a Senior Health Care Data Analyst. The Senior Health Care Data Analyst role is an exciting growth opportunity for an experienced data analyst ready to step into technical leadership, leveraging experience with claims data analysis and reporting production to support the overall team’s success. This position is designed for self-starters who thrive on solving complex problems, enjoy sharing knowledge and skills with others, and are motivated to understand nuances in CO APCD/claims data. The Senior Health Care Data Analyst will be the technical lead for report development, guiding project-specific team members in learning best practices for using CO APCD data, refining queries to improve code efficiency, performing quality checks on report drafts to identify areas for improvement, and support high-quality deliverable production for CIVHC’s diverse clients. Ideal candidates are strong communicators who balance deep analytical expertise with a holistic view of meeting CIVHC’s mission. Hybrid Work Model This position is based in Denver, Colorado. Because CIVHC operates under a hybrid work model with a requirement of at least one in-office day per week (unless otherwise approved), candidates must reside within a commutable distance to the Denver metro area. Limited relocation assistance may be available for out-of-state candidates who intend to relocate to the Denver area.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with SQL, including writing complex queries; familiarity with data visualization tools such as Tableau (other tools a plus).
  • Experience analyzing commercial, Medicare, and/or Medicaid claims data.
  • Working knowledge of healthcare industry standards and coding systems (e.g., revenue codes, ICD, CPT, HL7, PHI, HIPAA, HITECH).
  • Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in public health, computer science, biostatistics, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in data analysis may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Proven success as a high-performing analyst or equivalent role in a data-focused environment.
  • Familiarity with the organization’s data tools, workflows, and quality standards (or ability to learn quickly).
  • 3+ years of health care claims experience.
  • Experience interpreting data models, data dictionaries and queries.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with experience communicating and presenting to diverse audiences, potentially including executives and state officials.
  • SQL experience and technical skill writing queries.
  • Strong prioritization and time management skills.
  • Profiling large, complex data sets.
  • Excellent data analysis skills.
  • Ability to convey complex or technical issues in a clear, concise manner.
  • Creative, tenacious, and diligent.

Nice To Haves

  • 1+ year of medical coding experience in a provider setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide project-related coaching and feedback to analysts, fostering an educational and high-performing environment.
  • Coordinate with Team Leads, Managers, and Project Managers to support timely, accurate, and high-quality deliverable production.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for team questions, problem-solving, and escalation of issues to Analytics & Insights leadership.
  • Support the technical and analytic development of team members through ad-hoc mentoring, skill-building opportunities, and project-related feedback.
  • Develop reports, dashboards, and data tools that express findings or insights in ways that are easy for diverse audiences to interpret.
  • Profile, scrub, validate, and analyze large, complex data sets (including commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid claims data).
  • Interpret and communicate analytic results clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, including presentations to executives, state officials, and other stakeholders.
  • Facilitate clear communication between project teams and leadership, ensuring timely updates and issue resolution.
  • Contribute to process improvements that enhance team efficiency, data quality, and insight generation as requested.
  • Model organizational values and hold the team accountable to agreed-upon standards and commitments.
  • Demonstrated experience identifying trends and patterns in clinical datasets.
