About The Position

We are seeking a Senior Health and Safety Specialist Energy to join our team in Richland, WA. Your role Implements organization/facility health, safety, and quality assurance policies, programs and training. Monitors and evaluates the workplace to ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Washington State regulations. Conducts all aspects of industrial hygiene exposure assessments in an industrial setting including worker exposure monitoring. Evaluates workplace hazards, provide hazard control recommendations, and develops corrective actions accordingly. Develops and provides worker occupational health training. Provided oversight, direction, and training to the project to ensure program, project, function and/or facility process(es) are conducted in compliance with established rules, regulations, policies and procedures and to ensure high quality products and services for Atkins customers. Assists staff with the revision of Health and Safety procedures as requested. Provides mentoring, guidance, and leadership for industrial hygiene and safety personnel. Develops and provides customized safety and health training regarding chemical and physical hazards. Evaluates ergonomic hazards and recommend controls. Assists line managers with implementing effective Health, Safety and QA programs. Participates in safety meetings including monthly, weekly and plan of the day meetings as required. Prepares, reviews, and approves Health and Safety documentation (e.g., project Safety and Health procedures, job and activity hazard analyses, Industrial hygiene exposure assessment survey plans, and site-specific Health and Safety plans). Utilizes Industrial Hygiene best management practices when evaluating workplace hazards, compiling and analyzing data and implement controls. Generates summary reports and worker exposure monitoring records. Manages industrial hygiene records in accordance with record management requirements. Ensures equipment is maintained and calibrated in accordance with applicable quality assurance program requirements and manufacturers recommendations. Conducts OSHA field inspections, assessments, job hazard analyze review, pre-job briefings, toolbox safety meetings and training as required by the site-specific Health and Safety Plan. Serves as the interface for internal and external Health and Safety audits. Performs personnel evaluation monitoring (e.g., chemical and noise monitoring, confined space air monitoring and heat stress monitoring). Performs industrial hygiene assessments of projects/processes. Support investigations on incidents and accidents. Maintains records in accordance with record management requirements. Stays informed of changes made to applicable codes, standards and regulations. Assists in preparing responses and corrective action plans and verifying implementation of corrective actions. Assists with significant nonconformance and condition reports. Promotes communication to enhance and encourage employee awareness of safety and health requirements. Follows organizational policies and procedures and ensures staff is in compliance. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required in industrial hygiene, occupational safety, engineering, chemistry, physics, related biological science or technical field.
  • Requires ten (10) years of experience in the health and safety area with emphasis on Industrial Hygiene.
  • Requires ten (10) years of working knowledge and experience with state and/or federal regulations/regulators.
  • Requires five (5) years of experience in nuclear, engineering or manufacturing.
  • Detailed knowledge of applicable site health and safety regulatory compliance requirements (local, state and federal).
  • Detailed understanding of how to prescribe, apply and assess compliance with applicable codes, standards and regulations.
  • Ability to manage and/or monitor multiple projects and activities occurring simultaneously.
  • Competency in anticipating, evaluating, and implementing controls for chemical, physical, and biological hazards.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Ability to use a variety of instruments for assessing occupational health hazards.
  • Ability to work with employees at all organizational levels.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, presentation skills and leadership and coaching skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, database applications and spreadsheets.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen in order to be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of management experience preferred.
  • U.S. Department of Energy site experience preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of industrial hygiene exposure monitoring and program management preferred.
