SAIC is seeking a Hardware Engineer with expertise in fiber optics in Pascagoula, MS for shipboard Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C5ISR) systems. This program will be part of a transformative venture, driving the future of next generation afloat mission effectiveness through the integration of cutting-edge commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) systems and network technologies using fiber-optic infrastructure. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s in electrical engineering and nine (9) years or more relevant experience hardware engineering (focused on fiber optics infrastructure); BS degree maybe offset with additional four (4) years relevant experience.
  • Experience designing, installing, or maintaining fiber optic networks, including integration with modern COTS systems, components, fiber optic cables, coaxial, cat 5/6 cables and fiber cable termination and splicing using appropriate tools.
  • Must have an active secret clearance on first day of employment.
  • Fiber Optic Certification,(e.g., ETA Certified Fiber Optic Technician [CFOT], FOA Certification, or equivalent).

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with COTS communication systems that leverage fiber optic infrastructure, including:
  • Cisco routers and switches (e.g., Catalyst or Nexus models)
  • Juniper networking equipment
  • Media converters for fiber-to-copper integration
  • Network Interface Cards (NICs) supporting fiber
  • Patch panels and optical splitter equipment
  • Proficiency of Microsoft Office suite and Autocad
  • Experience with fiber optics test equipment (eg LED and Laser Light sources, power meters, optical time domain reflectometer, optical loss test set, optical video inspection system, optical leak detector).
  • Experience with MIL-STD-2106 Development of Shipboard Industrial Test procedures
  • Cybersecurity Workforce (CSWF) IA Level II - Security+ certification, or CSSIP or equivalent.
  • Prior experience providing support for a project in a shipyard environment

  • Navigation: Integrated Bridge System, Gyrocompass (e.g., WSN-7).
  • Radar: Surface Search Radars (e.g., AN/SPY-6, SPS-series).
  • Communications: UHF, HF, VHF Marine Radios; Shipboard Communication Cabinets; EHF Communications.
  • Networking: NIPRNET, SIPRNET, SI LANs.
  • Safety: Interior Alarms and Safety Systems.
  • Positioning: GPS, Sonar Mission Systems, Fathometer, and Depth Sounding Devices.
  • Fiber Optic Systems and Hardware:
  • Networking components: Cisco and Juniper routers/switches, firewalls, and access points.
  • Infrastructure: Fiber Patch Panels, Distribution Frames, Couplers, and Splitters.
  • Integration: Media Converters and Ethernet-over-fiber solutions.
  • Optical Hardware: High data-rate components such as Optical Adapters, Transceivers (e.g., SFP/SFP+), Fiber Back-shells, and Connectors.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Fiber Optics related Hardware Engineering to support stage 4 and 5 test procedures development and test execution projects for shipboard C5ISR systems.
  • Develop, update and maintain engineering documents including:
  • Stage 4 and 5 test procedures for integrated C5ISR and COTS systems.
  • Interface control documents, cable block diagram, fiber optic cable topology, and wiring diagrams specific to fiber optic cables, connectors and back shells.
  • Hardware configurations including cabinets, trays, fixtures, sway braces, connectors and fiber optic components.
  • Hardware environmental qualification analysis reports (eg, shock, vibration, and Mil-STD-461 EMI/EMC).
  • Assess engineering change proposals and document risks and impacts to project milestones and deliverables with focus on maintaining fiber optic standards (e.g., MIL-STD-1773, -2042, -2052, -2163 and TIA-568, IEEE 802.3).
