About The Position

The Senior Group Leader provides program leadership by supporting the Director and Assistant Director and acting as a role model for all other staff. The Senior Group Leader is responsible for the overall supervision, development, management, and planning of his or her group. S/he is responsible for implementing a range of activities and transitions in manner that is safe and aligned with the afterschool model. Lastly, the Senior GL coaches less experienced GLs, and facilitates training.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalent Required.
  • Must have worked as a Group Leader for minimum of 2 years.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and facilitate activities that incorporate project-based, integrated and social-emotional learning, with developmentally appropriate components.
  • Conduct regular group participant conversations utilizing social group work techniques. Collaborate with other staff assigned to your group, providing support to activity instructors and other group leaders.
  • Role model appropriate behavior at all times, ensuring that your conduct aligns with the Good Shepherd, Mission, Vision and Values
  • Engage in participant/family outreach activities to ensure attendance and participation.
  • Utilize effective and appropriate behavior management techniques in program.
  • Discuss behavior problems and situations with supervisor as they emerge.
  • Resolve conflict within your group utilizing group work techniques - while seeking assistance from other staff, supervisors and directors when necessary.
  • Utilize a Youth and Family Development, and Trauma-informed. Create and implement activities that will lead participants to build a sense of belonging, and develop mastery, independence and generosity.
  • Complete required documentation and maintain all necessary participant and staff records.
  • Ensure timely administration of participant surveys in collaboration with PEP.
  • Write and submit sequenced lesson plans within designated time frame.
  • Utilize a sequenced curriculum - based on students interest for all activities
  • Demonstrate effective classroom management skills that ensure a safe and engaging classroom environment.
  • Assist with planning, organizing and hosting parent engagement, community or program wide events.
  • Ensure participants are prepared and able to illustrate what they learned in culminating events.
  • Develop positive relationships with participants, parents, colleagues and school personnel.
  • Inspect all facilities, equipment, and supplies and be sure all are locked away securely at the end of each day
  • Participate in all staff meetings and staff development trainings sessions.
  • Maintain strict adherence to policies and procedures at all times.
  • Participate in afterschool events and trips.
  • Learn to use the model to program plan, supervise, and train others.
  • DYCD data entry,
  • Maintenance of participant files,
  • Planning and leading program events and orientations.
  • School Food and Nutrition Roster/ attendance.
  • Collection and review of lesson plans.
  • Facilitation of staff meetings/ trainings.
  • Coaching staff.
  • Conduct program observations
  • Onboard, select and coach new staff.
  • Plan and conduct trips
  • Planning workscopes years programming,
  • Be a support to the Assistant Program Director.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
