About The Position

The Senior Graphics and Multimedia Specialist supports the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s graphic design team and is responsible for developing, creating and producing high-quality multimedia projects that support department initiatives and communications priorities. The role focuses primarily on print design, illustration and layout, producing clear, engaging and visually consistent materials for public information, education and marketing purposes in alignment with department standards and branding guidelines. This position reports to the Marketing Director within the Office of Communications.

Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of graphic design and multimedia applications, including Adobe Creative Cloud platforms (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, After Effects, etc.), and audiovisual design principles and techniques.
  • Knowledge of graphic, multimedia and audiovisual design principles and techniques.
  • Skilled in planning, organizing and coordinating complex projects. Ability to manage multiple campaigns and initiatives simultaneously, meeting deadlines and quality standards.
  • Ability to independently identify challenges, develop solutions and adapt strategies to evolving priorities and timelines.
  • Ability to present information in a concise and organized manner.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including proficiency in Associated Press (AP) style and the ability to craft clear, persuasive messaging for diverse audiences.
  • At least six years of verifiable related experience in graphic design, visual communications, multimedia, digital media or a related field. Post-secondary degrees in graphic design, visual communications, multimedia, digital media or a related field of study from an accredited university or college may be used as an alternative for the required six years of experience on a year-for-year basis.

  • Knowledge of branding, visual identity and accessibility standards in government or public-sector communications.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, illustrates and produces print and digital materials, including brochures, posters, reports, infographics and outreach collateral, in accordance with agency visual and brand standards.
  • Develops custom illustrations and graphics for public education and outreach campaigns, ensuring technical accuracy, visual clarity and accessibility.
  • Collaborates with multimedia and communications staff to develop cohesive, visually engaging layouts that effectively communicate key messages.
  • Reviews and proofs design materials for accuracy, consistency and compliance with department branding and style standards.
  • Maintains organized archives of design files, templates and image assets to ensure version control and accessibility of final files for team members.
  • Coordinates with external vendors and printers on specifications, proofs and final production for department publications and signage.
  • Provides graphics support for digital and social media campaigns, as needed.
  • Supports the development, production and delivery of multimedia projects, including but not limited to posters, brochures, visual reports, logos and graphic assets.
  • Assists with tracking and maintaining marketing and multimedia deliverables, products and project timelines.
  • Provides technical guidance and informal mentoring to team members, as appropriate.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
