About The Position

NOVA Engineering is seeking a highly experienced and motivated DOT Geotechnical Engineer (Transportation) to join our team in Raleigh or Charlotte, NC. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and hold a Professional Engineer (PE) license. This role involves leading geotechnical projects, providing technical expertise, and ensuring the successful delivery of projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, with significant experience on NCDOT projects.
  • Experience with gINT, Open Road Designer, and other typical NCDOT drawings and programs.
  • Strong knowledge of NCDOT standards, specifications, and procedures.
  • Proven experience in geotechnical investigations, analysis, and design.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in geotechnical software and tools.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage geotechnical engineering projects from inception to completion.
  • Conduct geotechnical investigations, including soil and rock sampling, laboratory testing, and analysis.
  • Prepare geotechnical reports, including foundation recommendations, slope stability analyses, and earthwork specifications.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to project teams, ensuring compliance with NCDOT standards and regulations.
  • Collaborate with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies to ensure project success.
  • Client account management and development visiting and communicating with appropriate NCDOT personnel in various divisions across NC.
  • Oversee fieldwork, including drilling, sampling, and testing activities.
  • Review and approve geotechnical designs, calculations, and drawings.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers and technical staff.
  • Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices.
