About The Position

Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Geophysicist at its Broomfield, Colorado office. In this role, you’ll apply your knowledge in geophysical investigations, hydro-stratigraphy, hydrology, and data analysis to advance our approaches to site characterization and remediation. You will direct and carry out complex geophysical research for environmental consulting projects, drawing on your extensive expertise in hydrogeology and geophysics. Ideal candidates possess strong technical proficiency in site assessment and data visualization. As a Senior Geophysicist, you’ll manage multidisciplinary projects across diverse industry sectors. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geophysics, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • Minimum 8 years of direct environmental consulting experience with a focus on geophysical investigations, hydro-stratigraphy, hydrology, and geophysical investigations; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong technical expertise in geophysical methods, hydro-stratigraphy, and advanced data visualization and analysis software.
  • Project management experience, including resource allocation, quality assurance, technical oversight, contractor coordination, and financial management.
  • Thorough understanding of regulations and guidance relevant to geophysical investigations, site characterization, and remediation, including experience working with state/local oversight agencies.
  • Experience mentoring and managing professional staff.
  • Excellent technical leadership of multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience with geophysical data evaluation tools, advanced visualization approaches, and integration of constituents of interest data.
  • Self-starter able to thrive in a fast-paced consulting environment, managing multiple projects, meeting deadlines, and traveling to client sites as needed.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Field work and overnight travel may be required.
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel.

Responsibilities

  • Lead geophysical investigations to characterize subsurface hydro-stratigraphy and hydrology, integrating data for conceptual site model development and remedial system design.
  • Develop and implement advanced geophysical and visualization strategies, including data integration, ensuring alignment with state and federal guidance and site-specific needs.
  • Apply advanced geophysical methods such as Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT), Electromagnetic (EM), and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) for subsurface analysis.
  • Develop and enhance 2D and 3D visualizations for geophysical and hydrogeological data interpretation.
  • Support conceptual site model development and optimize remedial strategies based on data-driven insights.
  • Lead preparation of technical work plans, memoranda, and reports; interpret analytical and geophysical data; perform risk evaluations; and deliver clear, defensible recommendations for remediation and mitigation.
  • Prepare and review technical deliverables such as reports, letters, analysis plans, and proposals; provide technical review and approval for project team outputs.
  • Provide technical leadership and support to field teams, ensuring effective problem-solving and successful project execution.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive field work plans, adapting to project-specific requirements.
  • Create detailed data presentations using advanced software tools, including Surfer, Grapher, Global Mapper, RES2DINV, and EKKO Project.
  • Oversee project management tasks, including scope and cost development, scheduling, and budget tracking.
  • Support business development by leading proposal efforts, pursuing repeat work, identifying new opportunities, and achieving personal business development goals.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with clients, regulatory agencies, property owners, and other stakeholders; communicate geophysical concepts, findings, and remediation strategies clearly and credibly.
  • Mentor, support, and motivate early-career staff in technical delivery and project performance, including geophysical sampling programs, data quality review, system evaluations, client expectations, and career growth.
  • Occasionally conduct field hydrogeology activities, including data collection, analysis, and site characterization for contaminants such as chlorinated solvents, coal combustion residuals (CCRs), PFAS, and petroleum hydrocarbons.
  • Drive personal, company, or rental vehicles to project sites and other business locations as needed.
