Senior Fullstack Engineer

Blackbird Labs IncNew York, NY
6d$180,000 - $240,000

About The Position

Blackbird Labs is a loyalty and payments platform establishing meaningful connections between the world’s best restaurants and their customers. Served up in 2022 by Ben Leventhal, co-founder of Eater and Resy, Blackbird offers a fully customizable loyalty programming platform for restaurants and a consumer app designed to make every guest feel like a bonafide VIP no matter where they dine. Backed by Union Square Ventures, a16z, Amex Ventures, Variant Fund, and other forward-thinking investors, Blackbird is out to revolutionize the restaurant industry. Blackbird is looking for a Senior Fullstack Engineer to own Flycar, our restaurant payments terminal used by thousands of restaurants. You'll build the software servers and managers rely on during every service, where downtime means a dining room that can't close checks. This is a Next.js/TypeScript monorepo powering multiple apps across payments, loyalty, and restaurant operations. You'll work primarily in Flycar but contribute across the platform.

Requirements

  • 5+ years with React and TypeScript
  • Experience with real-time data (WebSockets, polling) and graceful degradation on unreliable networks
  • Track record shipping software where failure has immediate, visible consequences — payments, POS, fintech, or similar
  • Comfort working across the stack: reading API contracts, debugging queries, reasoning about system design
  • Strong ownership instincts in a small, fast-moving team where scope is fluid

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with payments infrastructure, POS systems, or restaurant/hospitality tech
  • Background in multi-tenant systems or hardware-constrained environments (terminals, kiosks)
  • Exposure to blockchain, crypto, or web3
  • Experience with Datadog, Amplitude, or similar observability/analytics platforms

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end development of Flycar - UI, API integration, WebSocket flows, and fallback handling when things go wrong
  • Build interfaces that work reliably across FSR and QSR environments with inconsistent hardware, spotty networks, and dozens of POS configurations
  • Drive frontend architecture decisions — you'll shape how we build, not just what we build
  • Debug real-time payment flows that span our terminal, mobile app, and backend services

Benefits

  • Depending on your work location and experience the target annual salary for this position can range from: [$180,000-$240,000] USD. This range does not include the equity component of the overall compensation package.
  • Disclosure in accordance with New York City's Pay Transparency Law.
