POSITION SUMMARY At CVS Health, we are committed to delivering an exceptional developer experience across our digital engineering organization. We are building a Developer Experience (DevEx) Tooling & Automation team and are seeking a hands-on Senior Full Stack Engineer to design, build, and maintain internal platforms, tools, and developer-facing applications that enable engineers across CVS Health to be more productive, efficient, and empowered. As a core contributor within the DevEx organization, the Senior Full Stack Engineer will work closely with Staff Engineers and DevEx leadership to translate architectural vision into production-ready solutions. This role spans the full technology stack — from modern frontend frameworks to backend services, APIs, data pipelines, and cloud-native deployments. The ideal candidate is deeply hands-on, technically curious, and passionate about building scalable, secure, and developer-friendly platforms that support large, complex engineering environments.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including:
  • 3+ years of backend development using Java (Spring Boot) and/or Python.
  • 3+ years of experience with modern web frameworks such as React, Next.js, or Vue.js (with at least some experience in React)
  • 3+ years of experience working in UNIX/Linux environments, including shell scripting
  • 2+ years of experience with DevOps tools and practices, including Docker, Git, and GitHub Actions
  • 2+ years of experience with distributed systems and streaming or real-time processing technologies such as Kafka or Spark
  • 2+ years of experience working with data platforms, including:
  • Relational databases (PostgreSQL, including query optimization and schema migrations)
  • NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Redis, Cassandra, or Neo4j)
  • Data warehousing platforms (Databricks, Snowflake, or Redshift)
  • 2+ years of experience deploying and operating applications in cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or GCP

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building modern web applications using React, Next.js, or Angular with TypeScript in cloud-based environments
  • Strong experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs and/or GraphQL endpoints, particularly for developer-facing tooling
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and container orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes
  • Experience implementing authentication and authorization solutions using OAuth 2.0, OIDC, JWT, and Spring Security across frontend and backend systems
  • Knowledge of web accessibility (A11y), performance optimization, and end-to-end testing frameworks such as Cypress, Playwright, or Jest
  • Experience with observability and monitoring tools including Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, CloudWatch, or the ELK stack
  • Experience with event-driven architectures and messaging systems (e.g., Kafka, SQS)
  • Experience using Python for scripting or automation
  • Familiarity with Agentic AI frameworks or LLM integration (e.g., LangChain, AWS Bedrock) for AI-assisted developer tooling is a plus
  • Formal SAFe and/or Agile experience; prior healthcare industry experience is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable web-based platforms, internal tools, and developer-facing applications that improve engineering productivity and experience.
  • Develop and support secure, high-performance backend services and APIs, integrating with distributed systems, data pipelines, databases, and event-driven architectures.
  • Collaborate with DevEx leadership and Staff Engineers to implement architectural designs and deliver cloud-native, production-grade solutions.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, containerized services, and automation to enable reliable, efficient software delivery.
  • Apply best practices for security, observability, performance, accessibility, and testing across the full stack.

Benefits

  • Affordable medical plan options, a 401(k) plan (including matching company contributions), and an employee stock purchase plan.
  • No-cost programs for all colleagues including wellness screenings, tobacco cessation and weight management programs, confidential counseling and financial coaching.
  • Benefit solutions that address the different needs and preferences of our colleagues including paid time off, flexible work schedules, family leave, dependent care resources, colleague assistance programs, tuition assistance, retiree medical access and many other benefits depending on eligibility.
