Senior Frontend Engineer - Intercom

About the position

Verkada is a leader in cloud-based B2B physical security, offering six product lines integrated with a single cloud-based software platform. The company is focused on building cloud-managed intercom systems, which is their second newest major product line. This product allows customers to receive calls from anywhere with rich video and 2-way audio. The team operates with a startup mentality, providing ownership and autonomy to its members, and consists of firmware, backend, and mobile engineers.

Responsibilities

• Drive product ideas from conception to completion.
• Collaborate with a dynamic team of engineers to develop the intercom product line.
• Deliver best-in-class products and experiences.

Requirements

• 7+ years of industry software engineering experience.
• 5+ years of experience developing on React, with expertise in component lifecycle, state management, and hooks.
• Mastery of JavaScript, including scoping, closures, contexts, prototypes, and classes.
• Strong architectural understanding of custom components, custom UI, design systems, and cross-browser support.
• Experience collaborating cross-functionally to design complex customer-facing UI with robust backend APIs.
• Understanding of HTTP, Dev Tools, and practical debugging techniques.
• Strong CSS skills and proficiency with modern layout techniques (e.g., Flexbox, Grid).
• Adept at developing and maintaining unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.
• Attention to design, product details, and polish.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with TypeScript and modern state management tools (Redux, Recoil, React Context).
• Familiarity with CSS-in-JS libraries (e.g., styled-components) and modern data fetching strategies (React Query).
• Experience with code-splitting, lazy loading, and performance optimization.
