The Senior Fleet Staff Engineer (SFSE) will be responsible for managing small to medium capital or repair projects from concept to completion, with some supervision. This role involves interfacing with various stakeholders, including GLDD engineering and procurement staff, outside engineering services, regulatory bodies, fabricators, shipyards, and equipment vendors. The SFSE's primary goal is to ensure that all designs are safe, functional, and cost-effective. The position requires a strong understanding of engineering principles and the ability to navigate complex project requirements while adhering to the company's commitment to safety and quality. In this role, the SFSE will take projects through all phases, starting from identifying the work scope and scheduling based on current resources and priorities. The engineer will create AutoCAD models and drawings to support project design and fabrication, perform necessary engineering analyses, and collaborate with outside engineering firms or internal resources as needed. The SFSE will also be responsible for reviewing and approving drawings, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and pre-inspecting equipment to identify potential design or installation issues. Additionally, the SFSE will write specifications, develop and maintain detailed project budgets and schedules, and oversee fabrications and installations when required. Regular status reports will be provided to the Fleet Engineering Technical Manager or Fleet Engineering Projects Manager. The role also involves assisting other Fleet Engineers with larger engineering tasks and ensuring technical compliance and product quality during the procurement process. A commitment to the Incident and Injury Free (IIF) safety program is essential in all design and engineering activities.
