VIAVI Solutions’ Lab Production Business Unit in Calabasas has a need for a Firmware Engineer with experience and motivation. This position will directly be involved with the development of automated test software / firmware.

Requirements

  • BS Degree or higher in EE, CE, CS or Science equivalent.
  • 2+ years of software / firmware development experience.
  • Self-starter and motivator, willingness to study and learn new concepts.
  • Understand build environment for various FW / HW images, e.g. bootloader, RTOS, BIOS, UEFI, etc.
  • Knows branching methodology, which includes repository scheme and deployment process.
  • Able to understand and develop firmware drivers, e.g. USB, PCIe, I2C, xMII, SATA, SPI, GPIO, etc...
  • Skillful at reading schematics and generating block diagrams.
  • Knows HW peripherals for different CPU architectures, e.g. PowerPC, MIPS, ARM, x86.
  • Knows concepts of UEFI, bootstrap, BSP, Kernel, TCP/IP stack, file systems, etc.
  • Understanding board bring-up process and strategy.
  • Knows virtual machines and containerization.
  • Knowledgeable about voltage rails and clock trees.
  • Proficient in C/C++, assembly language, Python, Perl, TCL, Java, bash, etc.
  • Able to develop in and understand Linux environment.

Responsibilities

  • Derive embedded test requirements, define use case method, and plan deployment strategy.
  • Knowledgeable of Ethernet, TCP/IP, PCIe, RF technology, device drivers, etc.
  • Architect, design, develop, and maintain hardware-related test software applications written in C/C++, C#, python, TCL, Java, etc., while running in Linux, Windows, VM’s, or containers.
  • Perform design verification and help with board bring-up debug.
  • Work with hardware and FPGA engineers to debug complex problems
  • Interface with cross-functional teams and sites to define and implement new features
  • Coordinate technical discussions and collaborate with other system architects to make design decisions.
