About The Position

The Senior Fire Protection Engineer role blends technical design expertise with project leadership. This individual serves as the Fire Protection Engineer of Record on assigned projects, while providing mentorship, oversight, and strategic direction to junior team members to strengthen their technical capabilities and cultivate design excellence. This position is responsible for executing fire protection engineering and design across all phases of a project; from concept through construction, operating both independently and in close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, coordinated solutions.

Requirements

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree or related Science/Engineering Degree.
  • Experience: 10 or more years of experience.
  • Technical Skills: Professional Engineer (PE) license (preferred, but not required, to be in Fire Protection).
  • Experience with Revit.
  • Demonstrates a high standard of professionalism and client focus/customer service.
  • Resourceful and flexible.
  • Effective at handling multiple tasks.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Strong presentation, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to effectively delegate or be delegated to while working in a collaborative format with multiple team members.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a fire protection lead engineer in a national company.
  • Communicate with fire protection engineering staff in multiple locations throughout the company.
  • Coordinate staffing efforts and team assignments.
  • Provide proposal/pricing assistance to Project Managers throughout the company.
  • Listen to our clients’ needs and independently provide value to them by evaluating options based upon the client’s needs and desires, first cost, and life cycle cost.
  • Communicate your design recommendations to our clients, project team, construction contractors, and vendors in presentations and meetings, via email and phone as necessary.
  • Work on a project team with other technical staff to design and detail new systems that are needed, assuring that the work is accurate and coordinated and that the quality assurance measures have been followed.
  • Participate in on-site observations, information gathering, and interactions with clients and contractors during the design and construction phases of the projects to represent Salas O’Brien in the field.
  • Design fire protection systems including standard wet systems, dry systems, specialty (preaction and/or dry chemical) systems, etc.
  • Develop system concepts, load analysis, equipment selection, system layout, and specification writing.
