About The Position

The Senior Fire Inspector conducts comprehensive fire inspection services for Company’s clients, in accordance with the governing Jurisdiction’s interpretations. The inspector consults with jurisdiction and provides additional services as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum of seven years’ experience performing residential, commercial, and industrial inspections for a jurisdiction or municipality.
  • Plan Review experience may be substituted on a case-by-case basis.
  • Certification as a Fire Inspector II, issued by the ICC, or CSFM.
  • Completion of California State Fire Prevention Courses.
  • Strong communication skills both verbally and written as to interpretation and application of Federal, State, and Municipal fire protection codes, ordinances, and guidelines.
  • Ability to operate motor vehicles.
  • Ability to walk, crawl, climb ladders and be in confined space.
  • Able to work with minimum supervision.
  • Complex reading skills in order to interpret CA codes.
  • Strong written skills in order to communicate with architects, engineers, and applicants with written comments.
  • Require adequate vision to navigate jobsites, review plans and interpret documents.
  • Critical decision-making skills and advanced analytical skills.
  • General word processing and computer skills.
  • Ability to attend work and perform job duties on a regular and consistent basis.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Class “C” California driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Not required, but desire ability to also interpret building codes, ordinances, and guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to and perform on-site inspections to verify compliance with approved plans and regulations as adopted by the jurisdiction.
  • Interpret Federal, State, and Municipal fire protection codes, ordinances, and guidelines as to application to site and plans and educate all parties involved in use of plans and or site construction.
  • Compose field reports of corrective actions to architects, engineers, contractors, and applicants, in order to remedy deficiencies noted in plan inspection.
  • Perform periodic and follow-up inspections of new and existing buildings, structures, and installations.
  • Research problems, analyze various approaches and recommend solutions.
  • Attend meetings and conduct on-site evaluations of buildings to ensure a minimum of fire and life safety compliance provisions are met.
  • Through continuing education maintain expertise in current code and advancement in technology, materials, and methods of fire and life safety protection.
  • Conduct hazardous materials inspections.
  • Investigate complaints pertaining to violation of fire prevention laws.
  • Maintain files of reports.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
