About The Position

The Financial Analyst III uses financial, operational, clinical, and strategic data to create models and analyses of an advanced and complex nature. Uses these models and analyses in collaboration with the Institute, Finance, Clinical, and Operations leaders to improve financial performance and to achieve the strategic objectives of the organization. Mentors and oversees the work of less senior staff to ensure consistent, high-quality deliverables that meet or exceed customer needs. Along with other members of the department, they are responsible for creating experiences that meet the high standards of service excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Five or more years of progressive experience with healthcare business analytics and budgeting.
  • Proven record of tangible accomplishment in building successful analytic models using clinical and financial data.
  • Extensive knowledge of financial business processes in a healthcare setting; experience within a hospital strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel to include advanced formulas, pivot tables, and macro functions.
  • Strong team leadership skills, problem-solving skills, and the ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Ability to mentor and lead lower-level Financial Analysts.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead and conduct concise and effective meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Designs analytic models using patient encounter and related data to collaborate with key leadership customers to improve performance and achieve strategic goals.
  • Works in tandem with department heads, executive staff, and finance leadership in the development of the annual operating budget.
  • Contributes to the capital budget development and identifies where capital projects have operating cost impacts.
  • Analyzes and investigates actual-to-budget variances and describes those variances in terms of rate, volume, and service mix.
  • Quantifies the dollar value impact of payor mix shifts and CMI variances.
  • Communicates variances with departments throughout the hospital.
  • Constructs feasibility analyses, Pro Forma statements, and A3s using standard and advanced financial techniques.
  • Calculates volume, revenue, net revenue, and direct and indirect costs integral to the analysis.
  • Consults with customers to understand needs and applies skills and knowledge to independently research the best path.
  • Generates viable solutions to enable customers to improve financial performance.
  • Communicates timely, effectively, and appropriately with co-workers, supervisors, and customers.
  • Leads assigned projects and activities, prioritizing, assigning, and reviewing deliverables for team members.
  • Verifies and maintains the integrity of systems and deliverables produced through effective use of balancing, mentoring, and auditing tools.
  • Mentors and trains other employees in the use of decision support tools, standards, and procedures.
