About The Position

Reporting to the Director of Reimbursement and Analysis, the Senior Financial Analyst plays a critical role in supporting Graduate Medical Education (GME) financial and regulatory activities. This position is responsible for compiling and analyzing data for the annual Institutional Cost Report (ICR), coordinating with affiliate hospitals and hospitals nationwide, supporting internal and external audits, and completing required surveys. The Senior GME Analyst gathers and synthesizes data from multiple hospital departments related to GME, provides accurate and timely information to leadership and other stakeholders, and maintains direct communication with Medicare and Medicaid agencies as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or related BBA or BA.
  • Four years’ experience in hospital reimbursement, or hospital finance.
  • Experience with Medicare reporting for interns, residents, and physicians.
  • High proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced skills in Excel and Access.
  • Experience in hospital reimbursement and audit processes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial analysis, including cost/benefit and profit/loss analysis.

  • Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or Healthcare Administration.
  • Additional years of experience in hospital reimbursement.
  • Experience using HFS, IRIS, New Innovations, SQL and TimeStudies.com.

  • Knowledge of current healthcare regulations, audit requirements, and ICR preparation.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare the annual Institutional Cost Report in coordination with the Reimbursement Team.
  • Track all interns and residents across the Stony Brook health system.
  • Collect and ensure timely submission of Medicare physician teaching data on a quarterly basis.
  • Analyze and prepare GME settlement data for Medicare.
  • Assist with internal and external financial, GME, and Medicare audits, including coordinating audit responses.
  • Work closely with the Accounting Department, demonstrating a strong understanding of the General Ledger, with particular emphasis on revenue.
  • Generate reports using systems such as Contract Management, SQL, HFS, IRIS, New Innovations, Power Pivot, Access, and TimeStudies.com.
  • Communicate effectively with affiliate hospitals and other hospitals nationwide.
  • Conduct data analysis and financial reports on an as-needed basis for the Director and VP of Finance requiring independent judgment.
  • Prepare and submit annual and quarterly surveys, statistics.
  • Communicate directly with Medicaid and Medicare agencies as required.
  • Interpret CMS and other government regulations to ensure data accuracy and compliance.
  • Represent the department in hospital and interdepartmental meetings.
