Medtronic has announced its intention to separate the Diabetes division to promote future growth and innovation within the business and reallocate investments and resources across Medtronic, subject to applicable information and consultation requirements. As a separate entity, we anticipate leveraging increased investments to drive meaningful innovation and enhance our impact on patient care. Reporting to the Director of External Reporting & Technical Accounting, this role leads the company's technical accounting function, providing authoritative guidance on complex, judgmental, and high-impact accounting matters. The Sr. Finance Program Manager, Technical Accounting, plays a critical role in shaping accounting policy, driving technical excellence, and strengthening the foundation of the company's financial reporting in a dynamic, post-separation public-company environment. This position offers the opportunity to influence key accounting decisions, partner across the business, and elevate the organization's overall accounting governance.

  • Lead research, analysis, and documentation of accounting conclusions for complex and non-routine transactions under U.S. GAAP
  • Oversee development, maintenance, and communication of accounting policies and technical guidance across the organization
  • Partner with the External Reporting, Global Controllership, FP&A, Legal, and Audit to assess accounting implications of new transactions, programs, or initiatives
  • Support external reporting and audit processes by ensuring accounting positions are clearly supported and consistently applied
  • Provide technical accounting leadership for strategic transactions, including acquisitions, divestitures, and other complex arrangements, ensuring conclusions are well-documented and compliant with U.S. GAAP
  • Monitor emerging accounting and regulatory developments, providing leadership on implementation and readiness planning
  • Bachelor's degree with 7+ years of relevant experience (or advanced degree with 5+ years)
  • 8+ years of business experience with emphasis in accounting or finance, including 6+ years of public accounting/SEC Reporting experience
  • Strong ability to translate complex technical reporting guidance and effectively document and operationally implement it within an organization
  • Sound understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), financial controls, and other authoritative accounting and reporting guidance
  • Active CPA and/or MBA
  • Big 4 experience and/or SEC external reporting experience
  • Skillful in data analysis and visualization
  • Must have a high degree of initiative and self-motivation
  • Strong analytical skills and exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong organization skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to rapidly changing priorities while consistently delivering on time/high quality results
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interact with and influence all levels of management and executive management
  • Experience in large, matrix-managed company
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications (Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and desire and ability to learn financial applications (Workiva Wdesk, SAP, OneStream)
  • Strong people management skills, effective prioritization and delegation, and leadership ability including high focus on maintaining organization culture that fosters strong teamwork
  • Prior exposure to post-separation, IPO, or transformation environments preferred
