This opportunity entails being responsible for providing project leadership, engineering inspection and documentation of construction work performed by contractor, in order to monitor the project construction compliance with plans, specifications, and contract provisions, as well as state and local regulations in order to protect the client's interests. Responsible for assisting in the compliance and modification of design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans, specifications, and other contract documents for assigned projects. Our Milwaukee, WI office seeks a Senior Field Engineer Team Lead for Early 2026.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 6 years relevant experience, or
• Master's degree in Engineering and 5 years relevant experience, or
• Doctorate degree in Engineering and 4 years relevant experience.

Nice To Haves

• Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Construction Manager (CCM), American Concrete Institute (ACI), Project Management Professional (PMP).
• OSHA 30 certified preferred.
• Agency safety training certified preferred.
• Trained in digital construction management software such as Constructware, Asite or similar preferred.

Responsibilities

• Inspects, monitors, and oversees construction field work tasks and activities on a project to ensure conformance to plans and specifications.
• Administers KPIs and budget, reads and interprets complex contract documents to ensure compliance.
• Performs or oversees on-site material testing.
• Reviews plans and specifications to determine material requirements (quantities and qualities).
• Responsible for tracking of item quantities and preparing pay estimates and ensures that procedures and materials comply with plans and specifications.
• Initiates field changes to drawings and specifications, identifies discrepancies or conflicts within the documents.
• Reviews contractor's daily construction reports for accuracy, thoroughness, and consistency.
• Prepares weekly progress reports.
• Consults with Resident Engineer on work progress and construction problems, proactively recommends solutions, assists in the resolution of issues, and acts as a liaison with the engineer of record.
• Remains current and knowledgeable of industry technology and tools used to perform inspection work through industry resources, training, and research.
• Gains exposure to new technology and utilizes it (GPS/Rovers) to increase efficiency and accuracy of inspection tasks.
• Performs office engineer work when needed including but not limited to; assists change manager and project manager in contractor claims and disputes.
• Tracks, reviews, processes RFIs and submittals, and performs constructability reviews.
• Leads daily assignments, mentors, and trains employees.
• Monitors internal HNTB project controls as directed.
• Recruits, hires, develops and retains staff, including development of plan for staff reporting, performance and compensation reviews, and succession.
• Coordinates schedules and approves timecards.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
