Seeking a Senior Fellow Nuclear Safety Engineer to support our federal government client in Aiken, SC. Application Deadline: Tuesday, 3/4/2026 at 12:00 noon PST. Requirements: The Contractor will initiate own technical programs, solve complex technical problems using both internal and external knowledge data bases, bring high technical credibility in field of expertise to the organization, recognize all aspects of the client's needs in filed of expertise, lead teams to solve complex technical problems. Apply technical experience in field of specialization or broad-based experience in multiple technical fields, and use other technical resources within the company, to resolve complex problems. Incorporate advanced technical practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning. Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems and be recognized as having expertise in a functional areas of technical expertise. Recommend engineering/ technical research programs for others in group and assist in that planning. Develop solutions to complex technical problems in fields of expertise, be responsive to organization needs in answering complex problems where judgment also has to be applied, organize and lead task teams to solve problems and fully utilize technical resources within the company, at assist in solutions. Identify technical areas where individual special knowledge can solve complex technical programs of interest to the company and DOE, take much initiative in this effort. Is often ahead of management in recognizing need. Prepare plans including schedules, budgets and personnel requirements for solving major technical tasks for department. Develop schedules, monitor progress, monitor expenditures of budget and review quality of work performed. Include research, development, testing, quality assurance requirements. Communicate results verbally and in manuscript form. Candidate will not have direct oversight responsibilities for personnel and will not be involved in giving assignments or tasks. Candidate will provide documents, presentations, and general support and coordination needed to complete assign tasks. May mentor less senior professionals in communication skills. Maintain technical expertise and bring credibility to the organization through recognition as a technical expert by the company and DOE through such activities as internal and external technical reports and/ or publications, involvement in national professional organizations and contributing significantly toward attaining the Site mission and goals. Recommend engineering and technology research, development and application programs for others and assist in the planning of such programs. Mentor less senior professionals as a means of transferring technical knowledge and insight. Additional Duties: Support the client's Nuclear & Criticality Safety Engineering organization in the development, review, and implementation of nuclear safety documentation for various facilities at the Savannah River Site. Provide technical assistance in developing nuclear safety documents and analyses, technical safety requirements, and related technical support documentation. Ensure that the developed nuclear safety documentation complies with requirements and as necessary, applicable controls are implemented in field procedures. Conduct Nuclear Safety Program assessments and maintain program manuals. Work Hours: Up to a 40-hour work week is scheduled. The client utilizes various work schedules including 5/8s (8 hour/day; five days per week), 4/10’s (10 hours/day; four days per week), and 9/80’s (9 hours/day, five days on week AA and four days on week BB. Work week excludes client holidays. Each workday has 30-minute lunch. Overtime will be expected at times to meet deliverables and will be utilized at the discretion of the Manager. The anticipated work schedule is 4/10s, Monday - Thursday, 6:45 am to 5:15 pm. Area Security Access: Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance. Qualifications: Required Candidate must demonstrate a minimum of 20 years of recent experience in the nuclear safety industry through support of the Department of Energy (DOE) or the commercial nuclear industry. Previous experience with the use and implementation of 10 CFR 830, DOE O 413.3, DOE O 420.1, and related directives and standards. Candidate must demonstrate personal accountability for facility/project schedules, deadlines, budgets, and the safe performance of work; and proficiency in performing Nuclear Safety Program assessments. Must be capable of obtaining and maintaining a DOE “Q” security clearance Education Alternate combination of education and experience will be considered where candidate has an advance degree. Preferred Candidates who have possessed an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years. Candidates involved in the preparation or review of Safety Basis documents to support DOE Capital Project within the past two (2) years. Candidates with direct experience in the application of DOE-STD-3009-2014 and DOESTD-1189-2016. Previous experience in developing, reviewing, and maintaining SRS safety basis documents. NOTE: US Citizenship is required to perform this government contract.
