About The Position

The Senior Faculty Affairs Officer at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine (TUSDM) plays a pivotal role in managing faculty-related matters within the institution. This position serves as a central resource for information regarding faculty appointments, promotions, and tenure policies and procedures. Reporting directly to the Dean of TUSDM, the Senior Faculty Affairs Officer collaborates closely with the Executive Associate Dean and other school leadership to ensure the effective management of appointment, reappointment, promotion, and tenure processes for approximately 440 faculty members, both salaried and volunteer. The officer is responsible for maintaining comprehensive faculty data and ensuring that all faculty contracts and appointments are current and properly managed. In this role, the Senior Faculty Affairs Officer will be the go-to resource for all faculty-related inquiries and will possess a thorough understanding of the TUSDM faculty handbook. This includes communicating policies and procedures, advising department chairs and managers on hiring processes, contracts, and terminations, and modifying the faculty handbook as necessary. The officer will also track the status of faculty contracts, work with finance and administration to issue appropriate letters and contracts, and support the Faculty Promotions and Tenure Committee (FAPTC) by gathering necessary information and producing meeting minutes. Additionally, the officer will coordinate faculty appointments and promotions, monitor appointment renewals, and track tenure status. They will serve as the primary liaison to University Human Resources and the Office of Equal Opportunity on special projects, administer Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) policies, and provide consultation regarding faculty promotion processes and other university policies. The role also involves coordinating executive faculty meetings, recording and distributing meeting minutes, and representing Dental Administration at various meetings. Overall, the Senior Faculty Affairs Officer is essential in ensuring that faculty members are supported and that their relationships with TUSDM are effectively managed.
