Position Summary: We are seeking an Export Compliance Subject Matter Expert to provide technical leadership and oversight for export control activities supporting NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) projects. This role ensures full compliance with U.S. export control laws and NASA policies while supporting mission-critical scientific and engineering efforts.

Requirements

  • Must meet government National Agency Check (NAC) and citizenship or permanent residency requirements for access to NASA GSFC.
  • Ability to travel as required.
  • Bachelor’s degree and 12–15 years of relevant experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior export control experience supporting NASA programs strongly preferred.
  • Experience working in a classified or controlled security environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical oversight for the management, implementation, and promotion of export compliance processes for NASA GSFC project assets.
  • Review and ensure technical project documentation complies with U.S. export control laws, NASA policies, and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) marking requirements.
  • Support the transfer of ITAR- and EAR-controlled technical data.
  • Determine jurisdiction and export classification for GSFC project flight hardware, software, and technical data.
  • Prepare and manage export license applications, exemptions, and exceptions for GSFC projects.
  • Develop and deliver export compliance (ITAR/EAR) training to PAAC personnel and NASA GSFC science and engineering teams.
  • Ensure proper safeguarding and management of proprietary data from industrial partners, as well as potentially classified information.
  • Generate and review shipping documentation for spacecraft hardware, including packages prepared for expedited shipping.
  • Coordinate with the Logistics Transportation Management Branch to support timely and compliant shipment of spacecraft hardware.
  • Ensure all hardware shipments and technical data transfers comply with applicable U.S. export control regulations, including ITAR, EAR, and relevant CFR provisions.
  • Create and facilitate training, guidance, and mentorship to members of the Export Control functional group.
