About The Position

Amazon Web Services (AWS) continues to expand its global presence and customer facing services and we are looking for a highly motivated Export Compliance Manager to manage our global ECCN classification program. As part of the AWS Global Trade team, this role within the export control classification team gets to build policies, processes and solutions for automated compliance, engage with engineering teams to proactively understand and classify new technology products and establishes proactive processes while partnering with teams to build automation solutions and drives project deliverables. The successful candidate will manage the ECCN classification program for strategic internal business units and be an innovative compliance leader experienced in diving deep into complex technical areas. The candidate will leverage strong subject matter expertise, a passion for new challenges, be creative, self-directed and a great team player. Candidates should drive continuous process improvement, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to solve problems and develop requirements for new compliance solutions. The candidate should be an innovative compliance professional experienced in building next gen programs, and have the ability to dive deep into complex problem solving. The role will drive and scale the export classification program through innovative process and automation development, engaging cross-functional teams that span a broad range of stakeholders, including development teams and senior leadership. The candidate will dive deep into complex technical areas with engineering teams to determine export control classification of hardware, software, and technology. In this role, you will drive continuous process improvement, and collaborate effectively to solve problems and develop requirements for new compliance solutions. You will act as a compliance leader who can prioritize well, communicate clearly, and have a consistent track record of delivery. You can handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. You will be able to help create simple solutions to meet your program goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years’ experience in export compliance in a global corporate environment
  • Extensive knowledge of US export regulations including EAR & ITAR
  • Experience using SNAP-R & DECCS
  • Experience determining export authorization requirements

Nice To Haves

  • MBA or related advanced degree
  • 10+ years’ experience in export compliance in a global corporate environment
  • Experience working with research and development teams to determine applicable export controls, classification for hardware, software, technology, and control plan implementation
  • Experience with non-US export regulations (EU, APAC, etc.)
  • Track record of taking ownership and driving results
  • Strong attention to detail, and the ability to self-start and self-motivate
  • Experience in working with technology and automation to develop innovative solutions
  • Ability to mine and analyze data for reporting
  • Ability to travel as needed

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic expertise on US and global export regulations and advise internal business customers on compliance program initiatives
  • Develop and maintain strategic ECCN classification processes and solutions to manage and evolve AWS’ global classification program
  • Drive innovative solution requirements to further enhance and automate compliance
  • Develop and implement strategic compliance processes and solutions to manage and maintain
  • US & Global export regulatory compliance and drive continuous improvements
  • Export jurisdiction and classification of dual-use items (EAR)
  • Monitor regulatory changes
  • Create metrics for management reporting
  • Drive process improvement and compliance implementation projects
  • Own leadership communications to stakeholder teams and executive leadership
  • Innovate control mechanisms to best meet business goals and compliance requirements

Benefits

  • Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $107,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $229,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
