About The Position

The YMCA of Northern Colorado is seeking an inspiring, mission driven Senior Executive Director to lead operations at the Boulder YMCA and drive association Health & Wellness strategy. This is a high impact leadership role for an experienced operator who can elevate member experience, grow programs, and guide teams to excellence. You’ll oversee branch performance and operations, champion innovative health and fitness initiatives across the association, and play a lead role in the Boulder YMCA capital improvement project. Under the director of the Vice President, the Senior Executive Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations of assigned YMCA branch(s). In addition, this position will also be responsible for an assigned association-wide department and/or programs, ensuring that the quality of all programs and offerings are meeting YMCA and industry standards. The Senior Executive Director leads and develops staff, fosters a culture of collaboration and excellence, and ensures programs meet industry standards and community needs. Responsible for operational excellence, financial stewardship, and program quality, this position ensures effective use of resources, safe and welcoming environments, and measurable outcomes. This role supports the growth, sustainability, and community impact of the YMCA.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human services, social services, business or equivalent.
  • Six or more years of management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.
  • Knowledge and experience in all aspects of operations, including staff supervision and development, membership practices, program development and implementation, volunteerism, facility and property management and financial practices.
  • Ability to use current Microsoft Office products, with proficiency in Excel. Personal computer skills required.
  • Experience in management and development of volunteer involvement; ability to recruit top community leaders.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community, track record of building authentic, constructive relationships with others.
  • YMCA Organizational Leader certification preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and supervision of assigned branch and program staff; recruit, train, develop, and evaluate employees and volunteers.
  • Creates a collaborative, high-performing culture that models YMCA values and relationship-building.
  • Develops, implements, and oversees high-quality, mission-driven programs to meet YMCA goals community needs.
  • Fosters a climate of innovation to develop member-focused programs in all departments to support the Y mission, goals, and strategies.
  • Ensures consistent program evaluation, quality improvement, and alignment with YMCA standards.
  • Represents and promotes the YMCA within the community and build strong relationships and partnerships with community organizations, schools, healthcare providers, etc.
  • Develops, manages, and monitors operating budgets; ensure fiscal responsibility and achievement of revenue goals.
  • Oversee facilities, equipment, and safety standards to ensure high-quality, well-maintained environments.
  • Manage resources efficiently to support sustainable operations and program growth.
  • Creates experiences that promote member connection, retention, and satisfaction.
  • Responds promptly to member feedback, concerns, and inquiries.
  • Develops safety and program quality standards and best practices and ensures the implementation throughout the association.
  • Monitors program effectiveness, track outcomes, and implement continuous improvements.
  • Supports marketing and communication efforts to promote programs, services, and community impact.
  • Assists in outreach initiatives that strengthen visibility and participation.

  • Completes additional duties assigned in support of the YMCA mission.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.
