The Senior Executive Communications Writer at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is responsible for developing and executing communication programs that enhance the university's storytelling and brand identity. This role involves writing and editing a variety of materials, including speeches, news stories, and formal correspondence, while collaborating with senior leaders and other stakeholders. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in advancing the university's reputation through high-quality written content.

  • Develops and supervises the execution of communication programs and may supervise personnel and/or other resources in support of institutional or unit communication goals.
  • Manages the day-to-day operational unit plans to align with strategic initiatives and to meet established objectives.
  • Plans, writes, and edits content for various internal and external stakeholders.
  • Plans and directs unit programs and/or projects to ensure adherence to deadlines and budgets.
  • Identifies, proposes, and implements new or revised unit operational policies and procedures.
  • Develops, implements, and delivers communication materials through various mediums to designated audiences.
  • Interviews and gathers information from subject matter experts and archival sources to produce high-quality written materials for internal and external audiences.
  • Bachelor's Degree in journalism, strategic communications, marketing, English, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience specializing in executive communication or other written communication and/or marketing.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce clear, well-written and accurate materials across a variety of channels.
  • Understand how to find, research and tell stories.
  • Possess strong time-management and organizational skills, as well as the ability to handle multiple projects in a deadline-driven, highly detail-oriented environment.
  • Embrace teamwork and possess the ability to work collaboratively to plan and execute projects.
  • Demonstrate the ability to produce accurate, attention-grabbing content for an individual or brand.
  • Experience writing first-person point-of-view materials for leadership.
  • Must be comfortable with significant editing/rewriting of content that is produced.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently on complex projects and manage shifting priorities.
