As a mid-level Events Designer on the Overwatch 2 team, you’ll collaborate closely with our Lead Events Designer and Product to mold new ideas into polished seasonal experiences. We’re looking for a passionate designer with strong technical and creative skills, deep familiarity with Overwatch and live, free-to-play games, and an eye for Overwatch quality. You’ll be a partner with designers, engineers, artists, and production in a collaborative studio where teamwork drives success. This role is anticipated to be a hybrid work position, with some work on-site and some work-from-home. The home studio for this role is Irvine, CA.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in events or live ops design; a combination of relevant education and professional work experience will be considered.
  • Experience building character kits and abilities for shooter games.
  • Proven ability to tweak and tune metagame systems, especially for live service games.
  • Proficiency with game toolsets and scripting languages (e.g., Lua, Python, Blueprint).
  • Strong communication and collaborative skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Deep knowledge of Overwatch Heroes, gameplay systems, and live service content rhythms.
  • Prior background in other (non-design) disciplines: art, programming, production, audio, etc.
  • Advanced documentation skills for communicating and evangelizing design decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Design and Product to develop seasonal events, ranging from new game modes to system-driven engagement events.
  • Modify and script new hero abilities to match seasonal events or activations.
  • Tinker with experimental mechanics that look to evolve Overwatch gameplay and set a path to full release.
  • Create detailed design documentation and collaborate with UI/UX teams for exceptional player experiences.
