About The Position

The Senior Estimator in the Transportation Group at Sundt Construction is a key role that operates with minimal oversight on preconstruction teams. This position serves as the principal point of contact with the design team and the owner, leading various project delivery methods and demonstrating competence in both basic and advanced estimating functions. The role focuses on preparing detailed take-offs, soliciting quotes, developing cost estimates, and closing out bids for projects related to earthwork, paving, underground utilities, and structures in transit, civil infrastructure, and highway projects.

Requirements

• Advanced knowledge of HCSS estimating tools.
• Experience in estimating disciplines including earthwork, paving, underground utilities, and structures.
• Demonstrated competence in basic and advanced estimating functions.
• Ability to perform detailed quantity take-offs and develop cost estimates.
• Strong analytical skills to estimate unit costs based on crew composition and production rates.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with mass earthwork and grading.
• Familiarity with geotechnical report reviews and excavation methods.
• Knowledge of aggregate production and asphalt paving processes.
• Understanding of trench protection and shoring for underground utilities.

Responsibilities

• Estimate unit costs by analyzing crew composition, production rates, and equipment selection.
• Participate in detailed reviews, providing thorough explanations of estimates.
• Utilize relevant cost history database to verify production rates.
• Prepare supplier bid packages to ensure competitive material quotes for self-performed work.
• Coordinate junior estimators and interns with takeoff and vendor solicitation processes.
• Assist in obtaining firm quotes for material suppliers, equipment, and subcontractors.
