About The Position

We are actively looking for a Senior Estimator, to lead estimates, work with our preconstruction and construction teams, supporting a variety of Infrastructure self-performed projects. This division of Kiewit executes hands-on construction in the infrastructure market performing mass grading/excavation, drainage, paving, utility work, earthwork, site development, concrete, asphalt for large scale highway/bridge projects, aviation projects, rail/transit, reservoirs, and heavy water/wastewater. If you have 10+ years in estimating for design build/EPC projects in the infrastructure market, we would love to talk with you! In this role, you will be responsible for reviewing, analyzing and interpreting Contract Documents (specifications, drawings, and reference information) to develop detailed, comprehensive cost estimates for various project, as well as support pre-construction initiatives with cost estimation, budget development, quantity takeoffs, bid preparation and risk analysis.

Requirements

  • BS in engineering, construction, estimating or similar field, and a minimum of 10+ years' related estimating experience with extensive knowledge and demonstrated experience with estimating infrastructure self-performed construction projects (civil, earthwork, drainage, structural/bridge, grading, concrete, form-work, asphalt, underground utilities). If no degree, a minimum of 14 years estimating/construction experience required
  • Experience leading estimates and small estimating teams, providing coaching/mentoring is required at this level
  • Exceptionally strong attention to detail, communication, interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office products (e.g. Excel, Work, Outlook, PowerPoint) and proficient with various estimating tools and eager to learn 'InEight'
  • Ability to perform estimating duties as outlined above, ability to consult with stakeholders in bid preparation, and interface with clients and perform preconstruction functions.
  • Ability to go to site locations as required for walkdowns, and other estimating related functions
  • Must be willing to work in our Brentwood TN office full time and visit other Kiewit offices and project sites as required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop complete estimates for self-performed construction scopes of work for design/build, design/bid/build and EPC projects for infrastructure projects
  • Review owner plans and specifications to develop a comprehensive understanding of the project; develop plan for the actual construction to serve as basis for the estimate.
  • Review and assist with proposals and other documentation to prepare cost estimates. Review all bid and contract documents and home office legal department opinions.
  • Conduct site investigation prior to forming a plan of operations to identify any problems or conditions of an unusual nature that may be present.
  • Participate in constructability reviews, Collaborate with project managers, design engineers, superintendents, clients and other Kiewit districts to align expectations, phasing and scheduling of the work to ensure accuracy within the estimate.
  • Stay abreast of trends and developments, such as new equipment, methods and procedures that are developing in the industry.
  • Become proficient in Kiewit's estimating program, 'InEight Estimate'.
  • Provide leadership and strategy in subcontractor and vendor selection process; May lead small estimating teams and lead estimates for projects.
  • Prepare special engineering studies or reports required by certain bid items or conditions. Consult with clients/owners on various problems discovered during bid preparation, design/construction schedule changes, to ensure estimate stays on track.
