About The Position

Provides escort services to clients who need escort services to perform activities such as going to the bank, grocery shopping, medical or dental appointments, senior centers, etc.

Requirements

  • A high school graduate with at least two years of work experience is required. Experience working with the elderly and/or adults with disabilities is preferred.
  • Must have an interest in working with seniors and adults with disabilities and be willing and able to climb stairs to the homes of clients.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Must pass a strength test for physical fitness for the job; able to lift and/or carry up to 30 pounds.
  • Must pass a drug test.
  • Must have and maintain a valid CA driver's license and a minimum of two years of driving experience with a satisfactory driving record; if driving a personal vehicle for work must maintain auto insurance coverage as specified in Self-Help's policy.

  • Bilingual in English and Chinese or Vietnamese, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides transport and escort services to seniors and adults with disabilities to perform activities such as going to the bank, grocery shopping, medical or dental appointments, senior centers, etc. Meets seniors and travels with them to activities.
  • Confirms and verifies referral information with the supervisor regarding the client data, meeting date, time, and location.
  • Based on referral location and demand, plans out the route accordingly for efficiency and quality of service. Escort services can be one-to-one or with multiple seniors if possible.
  • Performs as a safety guard when there is an emergency to protect seniors and follows emergency procedures such as calling 911.
  • Assists clients to get on and off the vehicle safely.
  • Arrives at destinations on schedule.
  • Interacts with clients professionally at all times.
  • Follows Driver Operating Standards and Procedures.
  • Communicates and regularly reports changes in clients and issues of operation to the supervisor.
  • Maintains vehicle in good condition and keeps records of all services, vehicle usage/mileage, protecting the privacy and maintaining confidentiality of all personally identifiable information of clients.
  • Observes the conditions, and needs of clients, and provides appropriate assistance and referrals.
  • Helps with Home Delivered Meals deliveries to seniors and adults with disabilities, when needed.
  • Operates vehicles in a safe manner and adheres to traffic laws.
  • Attends driving safety and/or in-service training as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
