About The Position

Senior Equipment Operator - District Three / Marianna Maintenance This position upon receipt of the required CDL Instructional permit or license will operate vehicles and a variety of large equipment. Requirements

  • Knowledge of mathematical calculations.
  • Knowledge of standard safety rules and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the procedures, techniques and use of equipment in the maintenance and repair of highways, bridges and/or other highway structures.
  • Skilled in operating a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Skilled in operating and performing minor maintenance on large equipment and vehicles.
  • Skilled in completing job related reports and forms.
  • Skilled in communicating both verbally and in writing, including following oral/written instructions.
  • Ability to operate a variety of heavy equipment.
  • Ability to train others.
  • Ability to read and understand job related materials.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and handle up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stoop, climb, squat, push, pull, crawl or bend on a frequent basis.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, on various terrains and at various heights or in high volume traffic.
  • A valid Class “A” CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) is required.
  • Must obtain certification in Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) – Intermediate Level within one year and maintain it.
  • All herbicide applicators shall be licensed by the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Affairs in three areas: core curriculum, right of way, and aquatics. The Department will allow an employee under the direct supervision of a licensed applicator to train and gain experience for a period not to exceed twelve months, after which they shall be licensed.
  • High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency,
  • Valid Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License, and four years of infrastructure construction or maintenance experience.
  • An additional year of experience, for a total of five years of experience in infrastructure construction or maintenance is a substitute for a High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency.

Responsibilities

  • Operates vehicles and a variety of large equipment to include, but not limited to; road graders, sewer cleaner and hydraulic excavators in bridge and roadway maintenance.
  • Performs minor maintenance and servicing work in connection with any type of equipment operated and assists in the repairs of this equipment; check and add fluids, checks/adjusts brakes, maintains proper air pressure in all tires, etc. Cleans and washes equipment.
  • Supervises Department of Corrections inmates crew performing maintenance activities.
  • Coordinates, participates, and directs the maintenance activity of the assigned crew.
  • Assists in selecting materials, supplies, equipment, inspecting, planning workloads, workflows, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization with employees.
  • Maintains records of operation.
  • Prepares and maintains daily paperwork such as crew activity reports and daily vehicle check lists.
  • Performs independent manual labor incidental to job assignments.
  • Performs Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic).
  • Performs rough carpentry, masonry, painting and/or assists in the assembly and erection of highway signs.
  • Trains crew members in the operation of heavy equipment and of basic Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic).
  • Assists with crew activity reports as needed.
  • Coordinates, participates, and directs the maintenance activity of the chemical herbicide program as needed.
