About The Position

The purpose of this position is to assist the assigned department with projects by operating different types of equipment and maintenance. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Transports, sets up, and operates equipment such as front-end loader, backhoe, mini-excavator, bobcat, dump truck, hydro seeder, etc. to assist with a variety of construction. Performs inspection or preoperational checklist on all equipment and determines and/or conducts preventative maintenance and cleaning. Generates and completes all assigned work orders and documents daily work activities. Provides information to customers as requested. Supervises staff by prioritizing and assigning work, ensuring staff are trained and follow policies and procedures, and maintaining a healthy and safe working environment in the absence of a Water Crew Supervisor. Supplemental Functions: Performs other similar duties as required. Job Specifications and Qualifications: Knowledge: Construction principles and practices Construction equipment and tools Equipment operation and maintenance Applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations Licensing and Certifications : Valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver’s License; PLEASE NOTE : Applicants must meet the City criteria for an acceptable driving record. Working Conditions / Physical Requirements: Positions in this class require: standing, fine dexterity, walking, lifting, carrying, sitting, reaching, kneeling, crawling, pushing/pulling, climbing, vision, foot controls, balancing, bending, crouching, hearing, twisting, and talking. Heavy Work: Exerting 50 - 100 pounds occasionally, 25 -50 pounds frequently, or from 10 up to 20 pounds constantly. Incumbents may be subjected to extreme temperature, wetness and/or humidity, respiratory hazards, noise and vibration, and physical hazards.
