About The Position

As a Senior Equipment Operator, you will perform a variety of roadway maintenance activities on state roads throughout Lee County, including pothole repairs, shoulder work, tree-trimming, sidewalk repairs, emergency response, etc.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience in operating small/medium equipment and vehicles.
  • A valid Class 'E' driver's license at time of hire.
  • Obtain a CDL Class 'A' Instructional Permit within 60 days of appointment.
  • Obtain a CDL Class 'A' license within 10 months of appointment.
  • Must have an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department’s Driver’s Record Requirements Policy.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) - Intermediate Level within one year.

Responsibilities

  • Operates vehicles and a variety of large equipment including road graders, sewer cleaner, and hydraulic excavators in bridge and roadway maintenance.
  • Performs minor maintenance and servicing work on equipment operated.
  • Coordinates, participates, and directs the maintenance activity of the assigned crew.
  • Maintains records of operation and prepares daily paperwork such as crew activity reports.
  • Performs independent manual labor incidental to job assignments.
  • Performs Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic).
  • Trains crew members in the operation of heavy equipment and Temporary Traffic Control.
