About you and this role: Dow has an exciting opportunity as a Senior Environmental Specialist. This role can be located in Freeport (TX). As the Senior Environmental Specialist, you will share responsibility with the EH&S Delivery Leader to implement, coordinate, and maintain a proactive plant /department specific Environmental management system in order to meet business objectives and maintain the license to operate. You will increase individual awareness and accountability for environmental requirements, by providing a Plant Subject Matter Resource to coach plant personnel on environmental responsibilities, goals and the effective application of Environmental Work Processes. This position is to support the Plastics Business at Freeport.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree or relevant military experience at or above a U.S. E5 ranking or Canadian Petty Officer 2nd Class ranking
  • A minimum of 3 years in EH&S, manufacturing or related experience
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
  • Must be willing and able to do the following with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment, including but not limited to a respirator.
  • Perform frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.
  • Frequent/occasional lifting of material weighing approximately 50 lbs.
  • Work in tight or closed-in spaces.
  • Climb stairs/ladders and work high off the ground.
  • Stand 50% of the time.
  • Walk for extended periods of time.
  • Work in an area of intense or continuous noise.

  • Microsoft Skill: Being proficient in Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel

  • Ability to perform the RCI team leader /member roles
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ability to navigate and interpret regulatory Compliance and perform the Auditor role

Responsibilities

  • Implement global EH&S management systems (work processes, standard, procedures).
  • Ensures that the environmental aspects of Operating Discipline are adequate and applied to achieve environmental performance goals.
  • Works closely with facilities to implement needed Operating Discipline to ensure on-going sustainable compliance with existing and new permit and regulatory requirements.
  • Acts as the focal point for a business/plant for Environmental issues.
  • Participate in and provide data for Environmental audits, internal and external.
  • Coordinate and optimize Environmental programs for across the site or within specific facilities and businesses.
  • Conducts and documents investigations of environmental incidents and ensures follow-up actions to prevent recurrences that are addressed.
  • Performs Requirements Management Work Process (RMWP) roles as needed for site-specific issues.
  • Collects, inputs and calculates Environmental reporting information.
  • Prepares periodic Environmental reports (MACT, Title V).
  • Works with the Environmental Expertise Groups to obtain clear interpretations of site-specific regulatory process, regulations, laws and associated procedures.
  • Ensures Environmental Compliance tasks are completed.
  • Provides data and other information to air permit writers to prepare Permit by Rules or Permit Amendment applications for emission or operational changes.
  • Conducts or is at least involved with environmental self-assessments/audit privileges.
