About the position

Are you interested in leading a team of project managers who focus on overseeing investigation and remediation at military bases throughout Southern California? DTSC's Southern California Military Facilities Unit is looking for a highly energetic professional who has experience with team management and leadership, environmental consulting or regulatory oversight of federal or Superfund projects and knowledge of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, Liability Act (CERCLA) and/or Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). In this exciting role, the selected candidate will provide technical and management oversight of project managers, interface with environmental professionals from all services of the military and contribute to a cross functional team to ensure consistency in application of state regulations. Responsibilities

  • Provide technical direction and training to staff who oversee environmental investigations and cleanup activities at property where hazardous materials, substances or waste were released into the environment
  • Provide guidance on staff's review of submitted site cleanup-related documents (i.e., Phase I, Preliminary Endangerment Assessment/Resource Conservation and Recovery Act Facility Assessment, Site Characterization workplan and reports, Sampling and Analysis Plans, Human Health and Ecological Risk Assessment, etc.), field work oversight, regulatory decision-making, and communication with responsible parties, project proponents, external agencies, and the public
  • Utilizes high-level technical skills to oversee investigation and cleanup of property with hazardous materials and contaminated groundwater problems
  • Develop and update work plans, schedules, commitments, and monitors program activities, in conjunction with the Branch Chief, to ensure that program performance goals, performance measures, and schedules are met
  • Certify that EnviroStor data is accurate and up-to-date, review EnviroStor commitments monthly and ensures the accurate preparation of tracking reports

Requirements

  • Experience with environmental investigations and/or Phase I's or AAI documentation
  • Experience with environmental mitigation and/or cleanup of contaminated properties
  • Experience with mentoring and leading teams
  • Experience with environmental investigation and cleanup of sites currently or formerly used for military purposes
  • Experience with verbal environmental science communication, presentations, and public speaking
  • Experience with environmental/scientific technical writing and document preparation
